Has anyone read the Long Voyage Back by Luke Rhinehart? WW3 strikes America and some people escape to sea. the story is about there search for refuge. they encounter all the normal stull along the way (pirates, bombs going off, russian subs, radation sickniss ect).

Now while idea would not work in FO3 it could be easly adapted.
For example you could be drafted into the war effort and posted into China just before the war turns nasty. the plot could then go to you trying to find your own way home. The real story would come from what going on around you. The US army would obviously collapse, and you could encounter mutinous bands of soldiers from both sides, manic religous groups bent on the end of the world. The game writes itself.

I haven't read the book but I think there are many stories you could do that are set in the Fallout world. I've even been thinking of my own and I suspect everyone else has their own notion of what could/couldn't be done for a Fallout 3.

You could set FO3 in Russia, China, Canada, England, Australia, hell anywhere in the world and still have a WW3/nuclear armageddon/retro-tech storyline that would fit the Fallout mould. I suppose it's just a matter of what the deigners think will ship the most units.

I dunno... The USA has the most "retro" looking stuff from that era, like the old classic cars, the dials, the mainframes, all that... most people just associate China and Russia with red flags and secret police, England with fog and pubs, Europe with small villages, etc.

Plus you wouldn't have a plethora of rednecks, white trash, westerners, drugs, press gangs, and all kinds of trash as you do for the USA (well, some parts of it that is).

actually xotor have u been to australia? its has enough of drugs and shit goin on and i reckon it would be cool to have fo3 set in aust. but the yanks will most likely make characters like crocodile dundee and put kangaroos roaming our city streets. Listen America! it does not happen like that!!!!!!

sorry but as an australian i had to say that. neway australia does have some of the same stuff in the 60's as what america did so it would be valid.

an dthats my two cents. huru all

Clue Patrol:

The background of Fallout was to resemble some part of the Nuke Scare and Cold War era. Cuban Missile Crisis and such. Bomb Shelters, Bert the Turtle, the 'safety' movies. They all play a part in it, not just 'drugs and shit goin on' and 'some of the same stuff in the 60's as what america did'.
