While we do have a thread about posting and rating music, we kinda don't have a thread to talk about music in general. So do you play an instrument? In a band, in an orchestra, just by yourself? Genres, upcoming releases, all that stuff.

Personally, I play guitar (mostly electric, although I dabble with classical from time to time). Haven't played in a band in almost ten years, but I should really get off my arse and find a band again. Although I do want to get more into writing music first. For that I recently started taking cello lessons, to get a different perspective on music. Guitar, especially in Metal, is way too much of a lead instrument and tends to dominate the music, and I wanted a more "contextual" view. And some actual musical knowledge, because I don't really know much about music theory. I still need to "count the lines" in standard notation, and all the theory I know is leftover knowledge from high school.

What about you?

I play a bit of bass and make some electronic music on the Internet. A lot of my stuff is just me experimenting with different sounds or so. Some of the stuff is kinda rockish while some of it is just depressing drugged up club music.

I'm a rookie electric bass player. Self-educating. That is, using internet and various online lessons which are actually pretty good. Occasional help from friends here and there.

I'm not particularly good and I'm relatively new to all of this (I've been playing for little over a year), but I try to approach it from as many angles as possible - from learning music theory (still very basic on all of it), playing various styles and trying to do some of my own stuff in between. Again, all of it is very beginner level, but considering that I'm relatively busy and that this is basically just a hobby, I can say that my progress, while slow, is consistent.

The coolest thing about all of it is that I'm now starting to grasp music in completely different way, a perspective that is not only a "pure layman listener". Now I regularly have those mindblown moments when I hear/see some artists and their performance and can actually understand some of the stuff behind their musicianship.

@Millim

Got any of that recorded?

Sure, some of it is here.
(There's a few bass tracks in there somewhere).

Er... Joined a guitar class recently. So far all's I can do is play the beginning of Louie Louie.

That's a shitload of stuff.
What sort of equipment are you using and which program for electronic stuff?

I used to use Logic and use the keyboard back when I was in sixth form. With no access to that sadly, I've resulted to using GarageBand on an IPad.
Not exactly great but it's the best of a bad situation

When I was 10 I tried to play a recorder, but I decided it was boring and ended up binning it. My old school back then tried to make me play guitar too, which was ok but I never bothered to take it further.

I play drums. Have been in a few bands, but now there's only one and we play some kind of post-punk/post-rock influenced pop. Have played some hardcore and metal before. But I'm too old for that stuff now.

Here's a song from my current band:

Fuck man, I really like this. Why haven't you posted this stuff earlier?
Also, nice drumming. I like the production overall, sounds nice.

Oh well, it's something. I've struggling with finding a proper method of recording - "proper" as in manageable with basically no equipment intended for that. Not that there is anything to record.

Thanks a lot, glad you like it. I dunno, never really thought about posting it here. We're kinda doing this for our own amusement, have barely tried spreading the word.

It's produced by the drummer in this band:

It's mastered by the drummer from Cult of Luna (not a personal contact, it's his job and we paid him for it).

You can probably click your way to our whole album from that Soundcloud link.

Huh, I've actually heard of Gadget. CoL is a great band too.

I'm planning to listen your album in entirety later during the day.

Aww yiss.

Although I like this version by Kovcheg even more, despite the oktavist having a rather weird timbre:
