I saw this movie about 10 years ago. I don't remember too many details but i know it was set during a war (most likely WW2), and the main character was a little white (american?) kid. The movie shows a few years of his life while he was a prisoner of war for some Asians (I'm assuming Japs since i think it was WW2). Here are some random details i remmember:

There was a doctor in the movie and the kid was helping him out with a women that suffered a heart attack. He was pupming her chest and she moved her eyes. The kid got really exited about it since he thought he brought her back to life but the doctor explained that he only did this for a brief second, just enough for her to move her pupils. Another interesting detail was when an asian kid was trying to cut open a mango with a sword and some guy shot him since he thought he was going to kill someone with the sword. And this was definetly the most dramatic scene in the movie, when the main character (the white kid) starts singing a Japaneese song with the asian soldiers. At the end of the movie, the kid reunites with his parents and he only manages to recognize his mother because of her hair.

I had a post similar to this a while ago about a song i didn't know. I also listed very random details about the song but i managed to get a correct answer. Hopefully it will happen again this time. I really want to see this movie again.

The Empire Sun or Setting Sun Empire or fuck knows... SOmething like that. I remember. The Rising Sun? Empire of the Rising Sun? I'm pretty sure it was something like that. I remember it from when I saw bits of it on TV once. That heart pumping scene and all that.

Hey thanks a lot. I went to blockbuster.com and typed in "empire sun" and i found the movie. It's "Empire of the Sun"

Empire of the Sun, based in a biographical novel by J.G. Ballard, one of the best authors in sci-fi ever. Rather creepy the biographical nature of the work...

One of the few Spielberg movies i actually like, but people that didn`t spend part of their teenagers years reading about WWII and japonese culture, like me, usually say the movie is too melodramatic.
