The Open Wastes is an entirely open source game, made in Godot, and inspired by the Fallout franchise. It relies heavily on procedural generation to create a 3D post-apocalyptic world, which is explored by the player from a first-person perspective.

Controls
ASWD + mouse. Esc to quit, once in the game world.

This is a very early demo!
  • There is currently only one enemy type, and only one instance of this enemy spawns, for testing purposes.
  • The world map is very limited, due to the effect on performance with increasing scale.
  • The diversity of buildings in the game world is limited.

Known issues
  • The shotgun monk character can float off the ground! If you can think of a solution, please let me know.
  • The game has been developed on a Linux desktop and not yet tested on Windows or Mac machines.

Roadmap
  • Creation of a community surrounding the project, interested in developing and modding several different branches.
  • Independence from proprietary software: free and open-source forever.
  • Procedurally-generated buildings with far greater diversity of layout, allowing for placement of interactive objects (loot chests etc.)
  • Friendly NPCs / traders with a dialogue system supported by large-language models.
  • World / player background / story.
  • Loot and inventory system.
