Ok, the truth about nuclear war... the fact is, is that it would most likely be NOTHING like the game Fallout at all. in fact, i wouldnt be nearly as deadly and believe me, our government has planned and planned and planned for this senario. So, the population wouldnt be as decimated as the FO and FO2 population was. further more, the Nuclear winter would only last for about 10-50 years, and during that time you'd have the various governments of the world attempting to istablish communications, etc, throughout the land. any ways, the bottom line is: the rebuilding process would take (at most) 50 years, so you would never really see a "Fallout" type senario. *in theory that is*

Now, my ideas for FO3, as others have said... i would like to see a 3D based fallout and perhpas an engine similar to Baldur's Gate or something of the sort. buuut, i am also weary of such ideas just as most of you are. and as far as the future of the Fallout series goes, well, we've only seen the western U.S., what about the rest of the world? believe me, the Fallout series can go on as long as we want it to (or as long as it is profitable). i mean, you can always have new plots and new stories, without warping or disturbing the Feeling that we all got from the origional Fallout. further more, (hopefully) the Fallout series is just a baby in comparison to other games and tittles. so, don't ever give up hope people. also, the Fallout series has more potential to expand and grow than almost any other series or titles out there! eventually we might even see a "Fallout: The Movie." just look at Final Fantasy, they have produced 7 games, and are coming out with a movie this summer! Fallout can do the same thing if they market it right (of course, this will only be if they give the public what they want *and something that will sell*).

now, here are some good ideas for FO3:

I want to see a "MEGA WEAPON"... preferably something that is like a minigun... the vindicator just didn't cut if for me. i want to see another Lazer or Plasma based minigun... or maybe a Plasma based Rocket Launcher? i want a flying vehicle as well... and i want another car too! and boy do i ever love Caseless ammuniton! for FO3 i'd like to see more ground covered, more plots, more characters, more voices and MORE/Better CIENIMATICS!!! o, and a BETTER ENDING THAN IN FO2!!!!!!!!!!! also, when i give my character power armor, i want to see him in it! and the most important thing i can think of is: NO MASS ARMIES!!!!!! at least no more than 500 men per army ( armies that are playable in the game). also, i'd like to there not to be a time limit.. or if there is one then make it similar to FO2 and if you can play after the game make sure that the traders keep getting restocked. i'd like to see a "mechanic" perk which allows you to upgrade/modify/replicate weapons and which allows you to even create completely new ones perhaps. i want FO3 to be a Multiplayer game... maybe something like Diablo... i know it's not in the spirit of FO, but boy would i have fun pitting my character against others online! i want the characters to have more depth to them... i want them to be more like real people and i want them to be able to do the same things that real people can. like i said before, i want them to have better perks and things that allow them to build themselves and evolve. i dont want anyone in the world to have the same character as i do. any ways, it's late and this is all that i can think of... enjoy! flying vehicle WHAT??
a plane or a flying vehicle what the fuck????
i mean lets all just fly over the enemies and the raiders and let us forget that fallout felling off traveling the wasteland.
I DO NOT WANT A FLYING VEHICLE!!!
It would totaly destroy the fallout feling of traveling the wasteland.
i mean you would not need to care about raiders and what would you need a car for if you got a plane.
An airbuss like a bigg airballon or a airship (I do not know the english word a zepppelin?)like a route ship but still a flying vehicle to drive on your owne like a airplane or a frigging space ship, no way.

well everyone here is so damn set on details... so here are some details for you... if there are cars, and there are vertibirds.... dont you think that there would be a single engine aircraft left in some hanger on some rual airport?? i think so. i wouldnt to see myself driving it or anything... if anything of the sort then nothing more than a mini-movie when you first step into the plane and take off and that'd be the end of it. i mean, it'd just be a quik way to get from point A to point B... just like the car. it wouldnt mess anything up.... and is that all you got from that post?

Noo....

This is a stupid thing. The car is good because it makes you travel faster but you still can find the encourters and stop where u want. with an airplane you could only stop at specific places, like an airport and who the heck could attack you (i mean encourters and that nobody, NOBODY could attack a jet which is flying some kms high)

RE: Noo....

when was the word "Jet" implied? hello, i said a single engine aircraft... ok, what about highways??? i mean, you dont think that the highways leading into San Fran are now grassy or dirt covered stretches or road? or maybe the plane could have pontoons which allowed it to land in water? i was just saying that it'd be neat... but yeah, i thought about it and it just wouldnt be right... HOWERVER!!!! a vertibird and/or a helicopter like vehicle could be used. i mean, the BoS were designing their own vertibirds after you gave them the specs... just an idea, dont beat up on me for it... and again, that was 1 of many ideas i had posted up there... no response to the other ideas and or comments?

RE: Noo....

we`ve already discussed hyghways, i`m all for it,
and since i´m also in favour of more places than california or the states, i guess to move to europe, china or south america you should be able to use a tanker and a vertibird, only fuel should be scarce, so you would only use them two or three times in the game; wandering by foot or car is what fallout is all about...

RE: Noo....

Lurn two speel, PLEASE! At least loxley has an excuse-he's not even from the states. And I wholly agree with briosafreak on this, where the #$&% would you find enough fuel to fly the plane across the wasteland constantly?

RE: Noo....

shit guys, it was just a friggin idea... that's all. i never said JET either... i was only thinking of an old pre war single engine airplane that uses fuel cells... i just thought it might be neat... get off it already.

Is it me or does it seem that if the world war nuked, we'd all be dead. Even those of us in those %^*^(( vaults. The Gamma radiation from all of the weapon cannot be stopped by 6 feet of steel. Eventually, everyone would get poisoned to some extent. All of the food would be poisoned and people would only live to about 20. We would be back into the middle ages where children have a 25% chance of survival into their teens.

Well, if you want to believe the scare tactics of radicals and misinformation, then yes, nuclear war is completely unsurvivable. if you want to be realistic and actually look at the facts, then nothing you said in your post is true at all. Nuclear war is completely survivable. of course, if you're at ground zero, well, then yes, you'd be killed in less than a second. but, if the blast it's self dosn't kill you, and if you know what to do and if you are prepared, it's completely surviavble. i suggest you buy some books on the effects of nuclear war and nuclear war survival.

Gamma radiation is not a real threat. In Nagasaki, people in air raid shelters only 1/3 mile from ground zero escaped uninjured. Practically all harmful radiation will be blocked by 6 feet of earth (not steel), much less radiation than an average person receives in a lifetime.

Radioactive particles only really effect the upper levels of food and water, and are really not much of a threat on the ground. You could just remove the first few layers of food and it would be safe to eat. Water can be found below the earth where contamination is not a factor. Most people would not be affected.

People didn't survive very long in the Middle ages because of bad hygene and poor conditions. What killed them most was disease because of the aforementioned. In a post-fallout world, most technology and knowledge would be retained, and I doubt we'd be stuck with middle-age conditions and standards.

Dang it

If you have such high hopes for war then good luck, I think that no one here is important enough to be allowed to live in the aftermath (unless you work for the military).

The only thing that could really destroy the human race would be a large asteriod hitting the earth. The power behind one of those is probably close to 1000 times the power of every nuclear weapon ever created detonated at once.

Face it, radiation is not a huge threat. More hits the earth every day than what you'd get from a nuclear war. Furthermore, "nuclear winters" and other such theories were *MADE UP* by propaganda creators in the 70s and 80s either by the USSR to scare the hell out of Americans, or by Anti-Nuclear people to call for total removal of nuclear weapons. Most "hot" particulates will have dissipated most of their radiation after a year or two, and settled to the ground. Water would not be contaminated because all you have to do is dig deep wells, something that has already been done.

I'd be more concerned that the salt-flow of the Atlantic ocean could be disrupted, putting the earth into a new ice age.

RE: Oii

Err... actually I did some research for a school project and Gamma Rads can be stopped by 3 inches of Lead OR about 6 feet of solid concrete. And you could probably have some kind of self substaining Bioshpere with Plants and Animals that produces more than it needs, So you could Harvest it.

im going with Eropa..

i think an old flying chopper is more then possible.. i mean hell a car can drive from one side of the states to the other and back 10 times before needing more fuel... so whats wrong with having maybe a chopper or something simular..
like i forget how manytimes i would do the hell mission into a vault or something make it out by the skiddies on my undies.. only to be taken down by a freggin scorp on my way back to a town for medical care or raiders.. hell they gave you radios to equip in... was it FO1 or 2? ... why not put them to use??.. and have someone like the brotherhood run the chopper... or the junk yard dude??... hell they could do it for a price even..
all i know is when i played FO1 and saw that robot next to that crashed airship.. i was stoked at the possiblity of fixing him.. so that he may fix that ship for me..
Just becasue it's there in the game doesnt mean that you have to use it.. if you wanna walk.. then by all means walk!.. if you like cruisen around in the car.. then sweet as..
The whole series has rocked for a number of reasons. but the main key of it was.. you have the choice!!.. this is only one more that may be easily implimented.. so NOT to Delay the game longer then my little body can take!

Helicopters use about $1000 of fuel for *one* trip. Their range is short too and they are very sensitive to weather and air conditions. The only reason why the Enclave had Vertibirds is that they had a steady amount of fuel to supply their helicopters with. Additionally, those Vertibirds needed maintainence, and a separate *base* to refuel at.

Anything short of a crop duster or some other *low* tech plane would simply not exist, or exist in any workable condition after a hundred years of disuse.
