The Vikings, a story of rivalry in the world of FOT

Karnak Liaan

First time out of the vault
Hi, I'd like to share this short fan-fic I wrote with whoever is interested. It might be the first of a serie, depending on the reactions I get. Before all, somes footnotes.

1) I'm french, so there may be some incorrect spellings/grammar. Please help me to correct them.
2) This is a text I wrote in 10mn, I do not intend to receive a prize!
3) This is dedicated to a man called Odin, somehow. I created my first character for Fallout Tactics and called him Odin before knowing it was the name of a site-admin.

This being said, let me tell you the story of a Brotherhood of Steel squad, the Viking Squad...

Odin was half a savage, half a civilised man living in a small community in the east of what once were the United States of America. Where his name came from, his origins, he knew very little about, for his parents, who were trying to keep their life quiet and safe, didn't talk a lot. In fact, his mother, who was born in a vault, had been studying mythology among other things and, in order to put her hopes and those of her community into her son, she gave him the name of the greater God of the vikings, Odin.

Odin wasn't doing anything. Like his father, he had no "real" job, just trying to be useful wherever he could. His friends were calling him Dino or Dingo, but in a friendly way.

He was 26 when the disaster happend. One day, soldiers in armor, carrying powerful weapons like he had never seen invaded the town, killing most people and taking away the others. Odin never knew what had happened to his parents.

A few days later, he was in an internment camp with other tribals, an officer telling him he was now a member of the Brotherhood of Steel. With these soldiers he couldn't fight against, without any future or past anymore, he became a soldier.

His warrior skills soon became obvious, as his hopes of fleeing from the Brotherhood were disminishing. The Brotherhood seemed to control the whole land with a fist of... steel. He did one mission, then two, then three, then he understood he'd never see his hometown again. But something kept him hanging on...

As he was meeting new people, he was also learning about the history of his land, the wasteland. Once the greatest country in the world, now a radioactive desert where life was trying to be born again. He wanted to know more about what had happened and what could be in the future.

Some missions were particularly dangerous and his squad soon received a new member, a man called Bryan. Bryan had been travelling a lot and was also an adept of ultra-violence. He was coming from the west, he was saying. He told Odin stories about
the vault dweller, and how this man had been terrorizing his town, the Hub, by disguising into a cop before killing most important people of the town and loot their corpses, how he then destroyed the Master and the Children of the Cathedral. Odin didn't know what was true and what was a lie, but he liked these stories. After all, he was the son of a vault-dweller himself. He really didn't like Bryan, but his fighting skills and his stories about the west were making him a valuable ally.

West, indeed, was the way they were going as they ranked up and began to become rivals, putting the whole squad in danger. Many times, Bryan "accidentally" shot Odin during gunfights, and his rancor had been growing ever since. Finally, when General Dekker decided to send Viking Squad to the Calculator's lair, Bryan took the place of Odin as leader of the squad without his consent. Despite the help of Stitch and Rebeka, the doc and the pilot of the squad, Odin had a hard time. The mission almost fucked up because of the tension between the two men. They disagreed on every single decision.

While Odin was willing to give the Calculator a chance to prove himself right and sacrifice Sharon (aka "Charogne"), Bryan decided to destroy the computer with his rocket launcher before anyone could know more.

This ended the mission and Odin and Bryan were given the choice to leave the Brotherhood or not. Obviously, the squad disbanded and Odin left the Brotherhood with no other intention but to leave behind this man he now hated.

But the story of the rivalry between the two men was just born...

THE END

In the next episodes:
ODIN WILL RULE THE WASTELAND AND BECOME A LEGEND!!!
FARSIGHT IS MANIPULATING THE TWO MEN FOR THE BROTHERHOOD!!! WHY??? IS THAT ANOTHER WEIRD EXPERIMENT??? YOU'LL SOON KNOW!!!
ALSO, CHECK OUT MY OTHER TEAMS: VIOLENTES FEMMES, SNICKERS TEAM and of course KARNAK the LONER.

More footnotes:
- I know Bryan can't know the vault-dweller, even if he's really from the Hub, but I was thinking that while playing and remembered FOT was maaany years after FO1 only after I had finished the game, so Bryan he's still from the Hub and has met the vault-dweller. Or more probably, he just knows the story and says it happened to him, like maaaany people do.
- Btw, that crazy cop-killer vault-dweller is another character I created in FO1 :)
- I really had a bug (?) that made Brian become the leader of my squad instead of Odin just before the final mission... strange. So, this story.

thank you for reading.
