Tim Cain on Lore Drift

CT Phipps

Carbon Dated and Proud

Basically, Tim Cain discusses all of the changes and retcons that Fallout has undergone and whether or not it's inevitable or undermines the public's trust in the IP.

* He really hates Conan's adaptation

* He thinks Star Trek needed revision

* He has opinions on Dune's update

* He hates personal attacks

* He says Feral Ghouls, Glowing Ghouls, and Regular Ghouls were canon but says they need water and food. They also weren't immortal.

* He has no idea whether Harold was a mutant or a ghoul.

There's a difference between 'lore drift' and 'retcon', and he doesn't seem to get that.

Lore Drift is a light change that can be easily explained. Retcons are massive changes that depend on rewriting what already was, potentially making what came before impossible.

On the flip side, Chris Avellone has noticed what's wrong.
