Tour a Fallout Shelter

I must be interesting to own a bunker, though it's usefulness eludes me. That thing surely needs maintenance, thus money and I wonder if the fees from the tour of the bunker cover that. If properly decorated and administered it could make a killer club/disco though. The missile silo was disappointing. It is just a death trap, filled with asbestos, rust and bad graffiti.

They could make subscriptions and collect fees so that they could keep the whole thing functional and stocked with food. One problem: how do you know when it's time to run for cover? When they drop them? What warning would one get in case of nuclear attack, if any?

Errm, an alarm? Missiles, especially ICBMs, are usually spotted at least half an hour before they hit, especially with today's systems.

I actually think these places would be fun for paintball.

But I like your idea of making them into a disco. Problem is that they are too far out of the way.

While flying out west, my wife and saw a mansion from the air, with it's own runway, miles from everywhere. A nice little post-apocalyptic retreat with 12 bedrooms, three pools and tennis courts! In the middle of nowhere.

Talk about secret getaways.

Ah, paintball! A glorious idea! I always wondered how it would be like to play paintball in my old high school, it was a large building, u shaped with 2 floors and enough hiding places... the shelter would be good too, just imagine a hold the fort game  . As for the disco I was thinking of something post-apoc or something gothic. As for the lack of neighbors, that could actually be an advantage: you can make as much noise as you like and nobody is going to call the police. It would need a good road leading to it and a big parking lot.
As for getaways that mansion sounds really good. I always wanted to have my very own tropical island, with a mansion, airstrip and helipad, tennis court, pool, archery range and many other things. It's nice to dream but the waking up part really bites!
Looks like they are already renting the place:
In the past few years people have found a number of diverse uses for our bunker, and we have had the pleasure of accommodating some very different needs. In general we cater to the following requirements, but we are always open to suggestions.
For any queries please contact us.

Dining
We can, and have provided Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner from our fully serviced canteen and function room.
If you are a large group and would like a meal after your tour it's no problem!
Please contact us for our canteen menu and your specific requirements.
Parties
We are open to hire for parties or celebrations at our own discretion (as a guideline we generally don't allow 18th or 21st parties.) We also provide childrens parties.
Conferences
We are able to offer a unique location for conferences in the secure environment of a nuclear bunker. Our conference room is fitted with a telephone line and Over Head Projector. A video and television can also be easily arranged.
We can also provide coffee, buffet lunch etc
Film Location
We are a fantastic and highly unique location. We have hosted a large number of film and television productions, ranging from The Big Breakfast and Blue Peter, right through to music videos for MTV.
We have a large car park and ample facilities to cater for all requirements, including backup power generators.
So it is a museum that can be used as a restaurant, but from what I've read the parties are kind of "peaceful", that is to say they sound boring...
- Timmy, where did you have your birthday party?
- At the old bunker, it was so neat! There were balloons, and confetti, and we saw gas masks and military uniforms. At the end the crew simulated a nuclear attack and closed the doors, we all went down to the lowest level and braced ourselves. Hooray! [/rant]

Baboon:
Even if you have 30 minutes before it hits only the people that live close to the bunker would have a chance to go for cover, I'd say anyone within a 15-20 miles radius could get there in time. But the place sounds remote so not many people would benefit from the shelter it offers... just the owners, if they actually live inside it. So much for the 30 minutes....
Edit: silly me! London is not that far away, so people could get there in case something happens. There is just a small problem of selecting 600 people from the thousands that would rush to take shelter there. Piece of cake! :look: 8)

They wouldn't know it existed. Secret military base, remember? Only chance you have, really, is to live far away from any major city and have a damned good basement that can serve as a fallout shelter and where you can stock up food and water for a month, just for your family. Have damned good radiation suits too. And guns.

In about a month or so, I'm going to go up in the mountians about 60 or so miles from my Post and get some pictures of one of the old decomissioned nuke missle sites.. Theres 2 or three old ammo-bunkers there, a few pill-boxes 3 or four silos and the old C&C building. Should make for some very good pictures, hopefully it'll be cloudy that day to help add to the gloom and post apoc feel.

I'll post the pictures as soon as i get them.

There are quite a few bomb shelters around here, the closest is about one mile from where I live, in the basement of a medical building. Though, I doubt it would do any good in case of a nuclear war, too close to ground zero. Besides, no one has up-kept any of those places for twenty-some years.

Driving through the West once, we went right by an abandoned army base. All the buildings were sunken into the ground, about half buried. All of extremely thick concrete construction, with protective concrete walls around the doors and all. I wonder what it used to be, in the middle of the desert, closest town: Nowhere (population: 7).
