Troika closing doors?

The lads over at Gamespot posted their recent rumor mill feature and in there were a strange rumor regarding Troika, which evidently surfaced on the Quarter to three forums:
While many independent developers are enjoying success (i.e. BioWare, Obsidian Entertainment), others are not faring as well. This week, word surfaced that indie shop Troika Games, which was founded by several former Fallout developers and Interplay castaways, had fallen on hard times--so hard that, by some reports, it was closing its doors. So GameSpot went to the man himself, co-CEO and co-founder Leonard Boyarsky, to find out what's what. Boyarsky then gave us this cryptic answer: "We are basically perusing some options...after the beginning of February, we'll be making a statement." So, for now, they're still in business. But with February less than a week away, that could change soon.
Meh, I wouldn't read much into it.

god no, tell me this isnt true?!?

last i heard they were talking about hiring a complete extra development team on top of the current 2...

this CANT beeeee!

/me runs off to the store to buy all ToEE, Arcanum & V:tM-B copies he can find.

sad, sad if it`s true :(

in times where half done bullshit floods the game market the ones that do quality games have to suffer .. whoever pirated any game from troika .. shame on you !

Crud I hope its crap.... There my only lubber left. Can one of you guys use your contacts up top to find out the real information?

If they would indeed be broke, and sold out - then one might hope Bethesda'd buy 'em. Then Troika could develop FO3, and we'd all be holding hands and singing with joy.

That said, I've got 5 bucks right here that say this rumor is bullsh*t.

It is hostile, unfounded propaganda and everyone who thinks otherwise isn't a true Bolshevik.

Company makes best Roleplaying Game of the year.
Company sells the game reasonably.
Company might be going bottom up.
Other company, in the mean while, makes much crappier games (Neverwinter Nights, KotOR), and makes huge amounts of money.

Why does this seem unjust to me?

Simple.

God hates Fallout Fans.

Because it means there are a lot more people who fall under the phrase "lowest common denominator". For most of the NWN kids, that includes the "EL33T" ability to click the mouse.

Unfortunately Leonard Boyarsky has not outright denied this rumor.

It looks like we will have to wait for the announcement to be certain.

Wish Leon would pop on here and offer us something.

Hopefully they'll find funding from a good source.

Talks between Activision and Troika probably went something like this:

A: All right, if you get the Fallout license we'll give you a billion bucks to do it right. You can hire on the whole NMA crew as consultants or whatever. But if you don't get the license, you'll get it up the ass.

T: Right... so how about backing us for the license?

A: That shouldn't be necessary, should it. If God wants you to have it, you'll get it.

Silencer is right. Pay no heed to the words of a few panic mongers and traitors. The Party has remained silent on this issue because there IS no issue, just disgusting rumors and lies started by enemies of the People. They will pay for their treachery and the hard working troika in question shall continue its good works in the name of the People.

Now why did that sound like commie propaganda ? :D

But I doubt that Troika is closing down shop, but rather that they are restructuring ie some loose their jobs others don't..IF this is true..

And the conclusion is clear as day:
Activision is not God.

Eh, I think there silence on the issue shows that it has at least some truth to it. They probably just don't want to say anything until they can size up the full extent of their troubles.
