Trouble making new weapons .frm's

Rapier_21

First time out of the vault
Howdy. I'm having trouble working out where to find a pallet file I can use to get my weapon pictures into a .frm for the weapons I've added to F2. I've been able to get the acutal weapons/ammo to work properly in-game, but having the default AK-102 .frm for what should be a FNC is kinda annoying. I already tried setting the .bmp I wanted to use to 8-bit in photoshop and made it something like 150x50 or so; but it always comes out a green/blue mess. Aparently it's because I don't have a fallout 2 pallet file.

Sorry if my stuff's all discombobulated, I've been banging away at this for almost 12 hours now and I can't figure it out. :?

The best tool I found to convert .BMPs to .FRMs is bmp2frm by teamx (Best Team In The World). You can find it at their site, and probably here at NMA too.
Make sure your image has a pure blue background (set blue to 255 and red/green to zero). The applet will convert blue to clear, and the weapon palette to the Fo2 one. The closer the palettes are, the better.
Cheers!

Minor update; every time I try to get a .frm made, I come out with something like :
weird.jpg

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong; I'm using the fallout 2 pallet I got out of master.dat. I tried using bmp2frm but it doesn't like running on XP, even in compatability mode for Win98.

:/ Am I missing something here?

Hi there. If I'm correct the original .frm contain data not all tools can write/add to new images. To get your image work you should copy and paste it on a pic converted from an original .frm. I say you "should" because the resulting loss in shades and details isn't accettable...
To run bmp2frm: hit "start" on your win tool bar, then "run". Type the command line as described in the documentation. HD\mbp2frm\bmp2frm.bat newpic.bmp
Remember you need Alchemy. Simply put its files in the same folder. Done.
Don't worry about compatibility modes, the tool runs smoothly on XP, if you use the prompt. Command lines still give me the creeps, but know that bmp2frm will solve your trouble.
By the way, nice weapon.
Cheers.

Frame Animator is easier to use. Get it right away. You don't even need to worry about pallet, just use solid color in the background, do not do anti-aliasing with the object and background, save as indexed color. Again, you can use any color pallet, it's ok with Frame Animator. Lisac2k posted a link above so DO go and download it! And as my avatar says... ;)
