Trouble with Fallout 1 and 2

First time out of the vault
Hey, everyone.

I'm having some trouble with Fallout 1 and 2.

My problem with Fallout 1 is that the graphics are glitchy. All the time the screen goes black, except for my char. I have to move the mouse around the screen to "clear the black parts" or move the screen around, but it happens just too often.
And, before anything, I have done everything discribed in this article:

Maybe I could run the game in DOSBox? Is there any articles on how to install the DOS version of Fallout? (since my computer freezes and get the blue window crash if I try to install it normally, and DOSBox freezes if I try to install it through DOSBox, and besides, if I try to install it through DOSBox, I can only install up to the Medium installation)

I've also read around that you can use Microsoft Virtual Machine to install a copy of Windows 98 and run Fallout on it.

And now, my second problem is in Fallout 2. Actually, I have 2 problems in Fallout 2.
The first problem is: I can't see ANY children in the game. I've read on walkthourgh that some children steal from you in the Den, but I see no children around. Also, I can't do the Find Jonny quest and the Richard Doll quest, simply because I can't see Jonny or the boy looking for his Richard doll. At last, I see no children in the Wright's mansion. I see no children whatsoever through the game.
The second problem is that when I finish the game, some of the endings just get skipped. The narrator starts to talk, then suddenly he stops and the screen fades to black even before I can read everything. Some of the screens I can read up to the end, but some just get skipped.

Any tips on solving any of these problems?

Thanks in advance,

Yari

If a manual install doesn't work, then probably your CD is damaged and/or your CD player is too tired to read it properly.

Download the children patch from the files section.

This is covered in the troubleshooting sticky.

I doubt so... Maybe it's my videoboard, since it's onboard.

Thanks for the help anyway, I'll check your tips!

One quick question: does applying the children fix patch invalidate my saved games?

Oh, also, some other things I remembered:

If I sleep with Mrs. Bishop without asking my allies to wait for me, they disappear. Why is that? (usually I just ask them to wait for me just outside Mrs. Bishop's room)

Is there any use for the bottle caps you get for helping the old ghoul in Broken Hills? And is there any way to save the treasure hunter from the well when he gets stuck inside it?

No, although children will remain invisible on maps you've already visited in those games.
