Last week ARMY gave me a job. Thank's to my Dad (an army Officer) me and my friend were given a job to repair the computer at ARMY Women Education Centre (An office that train Women in the army.)They thought they could do everything but no! maybe they could shoot M-16 and destroy tank with Bazooka or nail a guy with SSG Sniper gun from 500 yards but they know nothing about Computer! What they knew is Writing with MS Word and playing MP3 with Winamp. Nobody knows! The problem is once a month their Win ME damaged (more Hang and you can't run the Word."Error while running WinWord.com.") so I must formatting their Hard Drive and install another Win ME. They only used the computer for Typing and hear WinAmp. Well do you know what's wrong? It keeps happening and for three week I must travel 50 miles during Weekend. They pay good but please!! I've got lot of thing to do. What should i tell to their Instructor? Yes the Instructor knew nothing either!
Anyone got any suggestion?

Tell them to not use Windows ME. Officials at Microsoft itself said it was a piece of shit, rushed, and they wouldn't/don't use it at their office. It is more unstable than any of the Windows OSes with possible exception to Windows 95 A, but that's pushing it.

Tell them to use their everlasting Army funds to get themselves a site license of Windows 2000 or Windows XP. The latter would be nice for those real computer drips because it is harder to break stuff.

What I'm really surprised about is that the government hasn't required the use of proprietary "security programs" to prevent the users from making good use of their computer... my father got a laptop from the Forest Service where he works, and the thing is bogged down by those programs, especially since they were written for Windows 98, and not Windows 2000 which the laptop uses. The order for those laptops was made about five to six years ago, but they only received them in the last few years. The Pentium Pro 300 mhz (or was it 200?) should be indication enough of the time it was made. At least the screen is a nice 14".

That's bureaucracy for you!
