Apologies in advance if this gets asked a lot.
I just bought the DVD trilogy pack (FO, FO2, FO Tactics) and have installed FO1 and FO2 onto Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. So far I've only played FO1 and it's doing okay. Sometimes the game starts with funky colors so I kill it and restart a few times. Eventually it starts with normal colors, but sometimes it goes funky again while playing. Fixing this would be nice but its not my biggest concern. I still need to try changing the compatibility settings to XP SP3 which may fix it.
Mainly I'm confused on all the patches and stuff like sfall that are now available for the FO games. What do I need and what should I try with Windows 7?
A few questions regarding patches and such:
1. Which patches, either official or unofficial, do I need to install in order for the game to run properly? I want to avoid a situation where a bug prevents me from going forward in the game.
2. Are any of the recommended patches usable on Windows 7 64-bit? I know they weren't intended to be.
3. Does anyone know if I install FO1 and/or FO2 onto the virtual machine mode of Windows7 in an instance of XP or perhaps even Windows 98, would I have better luck?
4. The trilogy DVD allows you to choose which 'version' of the games to install. I installed the hi-res versions of both FO and FO2 but I did not install the patches because they were unofficial and some text explained that they may not run properly on some computers. Should I go back and install them?
