Two beginner FO questions

First time out of the vault
I've been playing fallout for the first time, and it's an awesome game. But I've got two questions....

1) Can you exit directly to the world map from the middle of a zone or do you always have to manually walk to one of the exit areas? Like if I'm in that middle merchant area of the hub can I go directly to the world map without walking to the upper entrance section and then out?

2) Is there a way to instantly get out of a conversation?

Ok, thanks a lot

No and no. Sorry! :D

Yes, to press the zero key. This can sometimes mess up quests or triggers because some variables might be set when you leave dialogue normally, shop inventories might be supposed to shift around, and so on. It's available as a convenience if you know what you're doing, but you probably shouldn't use it in your first game.

Whoa, didn't know that.

Still, you shouldn't escape from dialogues this way (it's not like the individual dialogues are particularly long/difficult in Fallout).
