I just got the following in my Hotmail inbox.

Subject: (none)
Author: (none)

Contains nothing but this file:

(start of contains)

MKCCLFMK.EXE (28k)

(end of contains)

No text, nothing else. Just that file.

I've never got a mail like this before. Hotmail says it scans all messages with McAfee, but I'm not sure at all. Do you think I should try opening this file or just delete the mail?

P.S - McAfee, eh? Everyone who has at least some knowledge of programming can write an individual (never before used) trojan no antivirus software can detect.

Never open up any file that you haven't confirmed the person you *know* who sent it intended to send it to you. Usually a simple, "did you send me this file?" message will do.

McAfee: the same company who owns an open FTP server for *anyone* to download a copy of any of their retail software (ftp://ftp.mcafee.com Username: licensed Password: 321), and you expect that their software will find that virus? :)

Seriously, that program could be a simple program which simply screws up your system. The program could contain common program code that does not register as a trojan horse at all, but could still act as one.

Don't open it under any circumstances. Maybe submit it to an Anti-virus place or something.

I received a similar file from "unknown" except it was N-something or other and 37 KB. I deleted it on the mail server instead of downloading it with another email client (thank God!). However, I think something fishy is definately going on, and it must be with email sources on NMA or something like that, because where else would someone get all of these email addresses?

With hotmail did you try finding an IP address? Hopefully it'll be an idiot who has no idea how to mask their IP and you can get 'em and permanently ban them from their ISP.

Well if you're curious, you can download the file at a computer where it does no harm (to you), like at school, at the library... :-)

RE: Probably

Btw i`m not using these I have an old pc that does nbothing except checking these out. I usually open the file on that Pc and check what it does.
I installed Mc Afee, Norton and cheyenne on that PC and it almosts never stops anything.

Oh yaeh one last thing posting my e-mail was a mistake,it`s not an open invitation the send me viruses by e-mail. From what i know i can trust you guys. But all the rest who just visists who knows. So if any admin wants to erase that part of the message or all of it please be my guest.
