Unlimited Scroll

It Wandered In From the Wastes
I was thinking and i've discovered that Fallout is not compatible with any kind of long range weaponary.................. the maximum distance is 50 (you can set to 60,70,80.......... but you cannot se anything in a bigger distance than 50 hexes)............ If anyone can do a mod that remove the scroll limit, possibilitating the long range weapons use (exept for scroll blockers) it would be very cool!

Extending a field of view seems very unreal. Fallout 2 has long range weapons but shooting at your enemies across entire map, that's exaggerating! You should play Fo Tactics instead where you can automatically set shooting when % is at X level. And it is most irritating when enclave patrols shoot at you with Gauss pistols over entire screen <-- that's accuracy

Just open the maps and delete the scroll blockers...IF YOU DARE.

No, that are the blockers with them you can't go "out of the map". It doesn't really effects the field of view. (max scroll range from one point in the map.)

Does the range really equate directly to the number of hexes? Not some in game measurement like metres?

Yeah, I counted off steps once. It's actually like range in hexes -1 (unarmed has range of 1 but you have to be in the adjacent hex, not have 1 between you, as you might be led to think).

unreal?

realy, its REALY not unreal if you have a sniper rifle (a m99 barret can hit a target at 2,5+km with acurracy!)............... the limit of range is ridiculous!

The range in Fallout is compressed.

On the other hand the limit is smaller than sight of some weapons which sometimes results in getting fired at by opponents that can't be scrolled to.

So you want to shoot people at the other side of town. :wtf: I can't find out any way to scroll away from dude more than 50hex(vertical), 25(horizontal). Fo2 has limits and that's it. My advise, go for the vertical :P

Yes, we all know that. There's only one solution, same as above

It's the same for virtually all games that use a similar perspective. JA2, FOT and even a more recent game like Silent Storm use compressed ranges. Where's the fun if you can get sniped from 3 screens away? You'd never have a chance.

I think that implementing realistic weapon ranges in an isometric game would require some kind of zoomed-out tactical map.

Tactical map is a good idea. But still, fo2 maps are small comparing to fot.

Tactical maps wouldn't stop you getting shot at from a hidden character. It's one thing to have that happen if you stumble in range of a sniper, but if the whole map is in range?

Done. :P

Get a copy of sfall 1.13c or newer, and change the 'LocalMapXLimit' and 'LocalMapYLimit' options. I can easily do scroll blockers too if you change your mind.

That's sounds great. So this is the newest fix in v1.13c, ok.

Praise the lord
One more thing, i don't know how to use sfall.7z. I understand some c++ programming but, am i missing something here? :?

Edit:

Yes, i finally got it. Old versions of WinRAR and WinZip are to blame. I've downloaded 7-zip manager. Problem solved. God bless you all!!

scroll

thanks! i'm going to download it soon...............................
and about the fun factor, it realy isn't funny be sniped at 1km away. But remember that snipers are extremely rare and if you fight someone that have a sniper, you can sneak until get close or use -your- sniper..........
It's fun too snipe someone at 2km away inside a city than run out (good for low ST/EN characters that have big ability with small guns and lots of AG/PE!)..
EDIT: about the sfall 1.13c, where can i download it and what i do with it

It's actually very simple:
1.download sfall from here:
http://timeslip.chorrol.com/current/sfall.7z
2.open it with winzip10 or 7-zip file manager:
-7-zip file manager www.7-zip.org
3.extract ddraw.dll, ddraw.ini into \Black Isle\Fallout 2
4.there's also a readme file in the archive, it has all the answers

Exactly. Also, there's a simple solution to the problem of being sniped at 1km away. Not use snipers against player.
Similarly, it wouldn't be fun to encounter 6 enclave patrolmen with gauss/pulse pistols.
Or an actual enemy sniper in Fallout - i.e. an enemy character with sniper rifle, ~110% in Small Guns and 100% in sneak...

My idea is to have snipers but 1 or 2 in enemy team and only in quests, not random encounters. About that range thing, now the scroll can follow and opens a lot of possibilities  m99, lock and load 8-)
