Upcoming Seemingly Promising RPGs

Well, plenty of people have played Fable, Restricted Area and Kult, one is simply being ported to the PC and the other two have not come out in North America yet.

I reserve judgement on Oblivion, it's too early to tell.

I don't hold high hopes for Fable, even with the promises of new features. The basic formula of the game seems flawed (I don't own an X-Box, so I haven’t' played it myself, but judging on what I have heard concerning the game). In addition, I doubt anyone really trusts what they might promise anymore, we will have to wait for the release to see what the changes to the game really are.

Kult: Heretic Kingdoms seemed to be okay. Not great, but better than mediocre. Didn't seem to be worth the bother of importing it, but perhaps it will be something to pick up when it is released for North America.

Restricted Area is "Diablo with guns" by all accounts. That what reviews, previews, and the Germans who have played it have all said. Not very promising.

Dungeon Lords I haven't paid very much attention to, since my first impressions were not really that good. I'll look at the reviews when it comes out, but I don't see a great RPG there.

Fable was ok, but not nearly as revolutionary as everyone hyped it to be. Also, it was 13 hours long.

Not even, I beat it in 6. It was fun, but not as fun as all the advertising made it sound.

Really, I feel good giving it a high 6... but deffinately not over a 7.

the previews of Boiling Point: Road to Hell look pretty promising as well. it isnt a pure RPG, but if it is anything like they promise (which it wont) it'll be pretty damn good.

Jade Empire seems good and all, but the setting just seems out of place somehow. I'll definitely try it but hope its not a KOTOR type of game stript of the lightsabres.

Gothic III will release but not sure if will be in US.

Jowood has announced a release date in the forth quarter of 2005, but that is the German release. An English-language release will drag behind somewhat.

I'm pretty sure Jade Empire will be ported to the PC in time.

If you enjoy RPGs because of a coherent, evolving, deep story, with interesting characters, locations and quest then just go ahead and pass over Fable. Forget all the hype about revolutionary mechanics, nothing in that game is, nor will be, even with added material. If you think KoTOR is a weak RPG than Fable will welcome you into it's arms and whisper into your ear that it is the anti-christ come to sodomize your love for the RPG Genre, also Peter Molyneux might stop by for a three-way.

But if all you want is a fine Action Role Playing Game well then I guess you better go ahead and buy.... The Legend of Zelda. Any one of the long standing series is head and heels over Fable, and yes I'm including zelda 2: Links awakening.

Seriously it's that bad and if you read the xbox reviews you will find an interesting pattern occur, none will comment on the broken aspects of the game, doors that lead to nothing and some that don't open. The fact that the game is 20 hours MAX, about 5 to 8 if you stay on top of what you're doing, you're not very well rewarded, there's no real challenge some of the spells don't work properly and some animations is stiff, yet it gets good rating all for the same reason: It's fun. Bad news, it's not that fun and last time I checked fun games don't deserve near perfect scores when they're a haggard mess of what they're supposed to be.

Wow, you showed that you have no clue what you're saying about Zelda. Not only did you classify it as an action RPG, but you called Zelda 2's subtitle "Links awakening" when it's clearly "The Adventure of Link".

Classifying it as an action RPG as compared to Fable was intentional. A means to insult Fable more. Also I apologize for the incorrect name... nintendo lord.

If you ever needed any evidence that "professional" game ratings are utterly worthless, go to gamerankings.com and look up "Black and White". Average score: 90%. Molyneaux must be throwing thousands of dollars at these people for every game he touches - either that or the game reviewers all have concussions.

Call me what you want; you still don't know what you're talking about. Let's count how many holes are in this sentence shall we?

Alright Ekarderif, leave it alone. McRibbs, don't make any responses to Ekarderif either. Stick to the topic.

Ha, you don't fool me. Links Awakening was that game where you had to hit sleeping people with golf balls.

Edit: Eep! Sorry.

Isn't JoWood in some kind of economical distress right now?

its not like there are any true rpgs out there anyways (for console/pc), so you might as well throw zelda in as an action rpg, even though theres as much roleplaying in it as there is with Megaman Games.

note that i havent played FFXI yet, or ANY MMORPG for that matter, so mebbe a MMORPG is a little more true to the title of RPG?

even still, zelda and megaman kick ass.
