Is it possible to conquer fallout 2 with out updating it at all? Right now I have 1.0. As long as I won't miss anything important I don't think I'll update. please help.

Please get that patch. You'll save yourself so much trouble. Things that can happen in the unpatched version:
1. Numerous car bugs such as the trunk of the car following you around or the front of the car disapearring.
2. Ghouls in Gecko shooting at you for no reason.
3. Your NPCs shooting at you when you choose to leave them behind.
Those are just a few that can happen. There are more annoying bugs, but these are the worst. So do yourself a favor and download the patch and the savegame converter which are both available from the files section of this site.

I realize the bugs that could happen, but will I miss any part of the story or will it be screwed up majorly or anything?

If you can tolerate the 9 hours you will have to wait until you save or load a game when you're far in the game, nope, you will not miss anything.

Right, I finished the game the first time without the patch (I was too far into the game to start over and there was no savegame converter at that time), but I was glad so happy the game was nearly bugles the second time I played it with the patch. And why wouldn't you make it easy on yourself?
