using JS variables in HTML

OK, since there seems to be a tradition of posting JavaScript questions on this board *everyone points to Smack and laughs* :) I'm posting mine.

How the hell do you use JS variables as parameters of HTML tags? I've tried the format &{variable}; which I've found in some tutorial, but it returns strange results for me. Does anyone know?
