Van Buren is Fallout 3

Well since we don't officially know that Van Buren is Fallout 3, but all evidence lately points to it, here's another quote from JE Sawyer that implies that it really is Fallout 3:<blockquote>An important thing to remember in all of these discussions is that "it worked and you're messing it up" doesn't really apply in an entirely new engine and new game. We're not building off of any old data or assumptions about how things are placed in the world. It's not like changing any of these skill categories affects, for good or ill, how people play Fallout and Fallout 2. There's a lot of stuff in SPECIAL that doesn't need to be changed at all. But you and I and anyone else shouldn't balk at critically examining the system as though it's going to go into a game for the very first time. Because, from a literal standpoint, it is. We're working with a clean slate, code-wise. </blockquote>Well coupled with all the other statements lately, who still doesn't believe ?

Believing is not the issue, though...

Right now, I'm just not so sure they'll even get to finish the project.
Interplay/BIS is not in a very good situation right now, just look at Jefferson.

They could always sell the license to Atari at any time to extend the BG for the console license to 2012. If they pissed away finishing Baldur's Gate 3 for the PC to extend the BG console license to 2008, it's not that unlikely they'd fuck over Van Buren the same way.

what exactly is Van Buren? besides the presedent, or the street in arizona made famous for its hookers. is it a new engine? or a project that ____ is creating? who is creating it btw?

van Buren is the code name for the new Black Isle Studios game. They always give names of presidents to their projects.

Everyone knows that Van Buren is in fact Fallout3, but Interplay doesn`t let the developers officialy announce it for now. Hope it helped.

Yeah, exactly. But don't keep your hopes up for a Fallout game in the same spirit of Fallout 1 and 2. No, our friend Sawyer is taking a crap on the SPECIAL system and is moving around stuff, making it more and more appealing for those console-gamers.

You know with stuff like Multiplayer, RTB, and messing up various skills.

I don't have a problem with him tweaking the system, patching holes, etc, but he (J.E.) comes across as really wanting to put his own stamp on Fallout. It's a sequel, not an original, so he should just expand, not redefine. If in his view certain skills are useless, I think it would show a lot more creativity to make them useful in the game than to just toss them.
Van Buren is certainly Fallout 3, but what that actually means becomes less and less clear with everything he posts.

I totally agree. That's my big problem with it. It's supposed to be Fallout 3, not JE Sawyer's Wondermous Wasteland Adventure. The system used in Fallout should be tweaked in places, sure, but totally revamping it is a different matter entirely and total revampage is what we're talking about.

And it makes me sad. I've waited s o l o n g for a new Fallout. And now that it's finally being made, some guy is on an ego-trip and alters the entire game. :(

Isn't that kind of the story of fallout after Fallout 2???
I have this theory that everything got crazy and money-driven when Titus took over Interplay, and Brian Fargo quit.....
