Vault 13 Overseer discussion

First time out of the vault
Anyone else here sort of took issue with the character assassination the Overseer suffered in Fallout 2? At the end of Fallout 1, credit to his voice actor, he came off as a sympathetic character who genuinely believed it was to the benefit to everyone in Vault 13 if he gave the Vault Dweller the boot.

I just thought the effect the ending of Fallout 1 had on me got dampened when we learn he was totally in on this whole conspiracy plot that treated everyone in the vault like lab rats. Maybe it's easier to think that he himself was misled by Vault-tec into thinking that his express orders to keep Vault 13 isolated were necessary for the residents' safety, rather than for collecting data for the experiment.

This was the best part of Fallout 1...die you old bastard.

I looked around a bit on wiki, and the only mention that he is aware of the vault experiments apparently comes from the Fallout Bible: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Vault_13_Overseer

Since FO1 takes place 84 years after the bombs fell, he's at least the second Overseer, and his predecessor might not have made him privy to information about the experiment and only told him to keep the vault locked down.

But that all depends on whether you consider the bibles canon.

Alternatively: The Overseer is just a really good actor.

Superduper alternatively: Realize that it is a consequence of the excessive post-facto development (as mentioned here) and
