Vault Dweller costume and props

First time out of the vault
Hi all,

I'm making a Vault Dweller costume for a halloween party.
It's based on the in-game look and the picture "in to the desert" in the ending of the game.

You can carve the gun out of nearly anything, like balsa wood, and then paint it. A good paint job will make it look great. Be careful though. A gun that looks like a real firearm will make some people freak out. If it's indoors at a private party, it should be OK.

I've been looking at your blog. In your Pipboy, you can probably make a great simulation of vacuum tubes by mounting bright LED's inside small plastic tubes with foil sculpting of some sort inside concealing the LED's. Regarding whether it is hand held or worn on the arm, if you do a Google image search you will find that people have made mock ups both ways. The game itself doesn't really tell you. The Wiki says the original 2000's were hand held devices and some models were made to be worn on the arm. So either might be considered correct.

The SMG is drawn in layers, so I have to just print them separately and use them as templates.. It will be done by (each side) a layer of 12mm MDF-board then 2 layers of 3mm MDF, then a layer of cibatool.

The party is going to have many beamers and zappers, so I think that it'll be ok. I'm more concerned about my knife in boot holster.
It's the annual party of the University of Art and Design here in Helsinki, Finland, so the amount of work and skill poured to the costumes is quite high..

I was thinking about the LEDs but I found perfect sized light bulb from our uni's electronics storage. The other lamp will probably be a halogen light from an old overhead projector (without electricity of course, otherwise I would have a Torch-Boy)

I have been quite thorough with my research, so already checked the wiki, but thanks anyway!
