Got $4 millions laying aroud and still looking for a gift for the wife, well look no further! You can now buy your own vault at Ebay! Asking price is US $3,950,000.00, it's located in Central Washington State in beautiful scenery, well...underground that is:

Go here for the actual auction on Ebay. And go here to get all the 1950ies pens/equipment for your desk, in your new vault!
Thanks to Ken for informing me about this!

If someone here really has $3,950,000 to spare, then I know of something cooler to use it for:

Buy up Interplay and KICK tha king of stupidity outta there!

I would gladly trade in twenty vaults for something that gratifying.

It's not quite a "vault", but it's probably the closest thing you can get in the real world. Titan 1 silos are freaking huge, but not as big as the vaults were described.

From the auction
Would Consider Joint Venture or Long Term Lease
"Alright, your ten years are up, back to the surface."
"But... the fallout! My skin's dissolving!"
"Er, uh, here! Have a dust mask. You had your chance to renew."

also
DO NOT TRESSPASS OR DISTURB EXISTING TENANTS!
People actually live in this thing right now. Might be good research if you want to see what vault life really does to someone.

Ecotopia

Ecotopia

Proximity to I-90 and the suggestion of grape growing soil may put this ex-facility in the Yakima Valley.

Seattle is "just" over Stevens Pass and a San Juan Island Ferry at Anacortes another hour or so north off if I-5.

The closer one is to the Columbia River, the closer one is to the nuclear research nexus, ''The Tri Cities". Might need to be under ground in case it burps. The prevailing winds are to the east so the heavy particles, like the ash plume from the former Mount Saint Helens will fall in the more arid stretch of the "Inland Empire", aka ''The Palouse".

Don't confuse the nearness to the "Left Coast" as implying it's all hippy communes in "ecotopia". The Yakima is where American Agribusiness
engineers those long shelf life (or long 'half life') "Washington Apples". There is a large and active conservative community through out the state. As politically savvy as the South Carolina "christians" that launched the whisper (lying) campaign in 2000 that spiked Senator McCain's presidential primary effort.

With the proximity of neo nazis, survivalists, and militias you may
need to keep a tight perimeter to protect your mexican vine groomers.

Those gang bangers out there can commute to Portland or Tacoma to
play out, or act out, or live out, your GTA fantasies. This silo sub terra "castle" would be a "bitchin' crib". A HO' fo' yo' 'HO'ES!

The Columbia River Valley is the northern map edge of David Brin's ""The Postman"". The ideological sub text of this book evoked a commune community, of "PC" populism, and is a good read. The spirit of compromise and the post apoca' political "horse trading" was as iconical American as in the days of ''The Revolution", that 18th century power grab by merchants, planters, and farmers. Pardon my 'preachy' tone. I don't mean to precipitate allergic reactions that some have when down, or up, wind to Kevin Costner Vehicles. The book staged a "new dark age" with a cure for chaos in "community values". The need for economic and political stability that pushed individuals to action and linked all persuasions to a functional game plan.

Consider this ex-facility. All those that wish to "live out" their FO fantasies would be strategically poised to aide or deny the formation of "The New American Republic".

Welcome to Washington!

Not sure how good it would work as a vault or a fallout shelter.

But I think you could get a mean game of paintball in there, and that would be pretty cool.

4too, As always your posts are eloquent and well spoken. If i could only understand the point you were trying to get across they would be better.

Welsh: A decomissioned Nuclear Missle Base would be a BADASS Paintball arena. Make a few modifications here and there and you could have capyture the flag games, Assault's, or Last man Standing games.. hmmmm.... now if only i could get ahold of an old Nuke base and Some Simmunition M4's (carbine assault rifle), M9's (9mm pistols) and Shotguns.... *simmunitions are Paint rounds fired from an actual bullet, longer range than paintball's, more accurate, hurt more*

Hell yeah it would. There's a bunch of them in Arizona that are supposed to be decommisioned soon, let's rent one.

Bunker Mentality

Bunker Mentality

Elissar, thanks for your time and bandwidth. I am still in that "just DO IT" , right or wrong, "just ... DO IT", period. My impressionistic eclecticism is a Jackson Pollack paint fling fest with an Anglo Saxon mediaeval border.

Step back, for I sense a back slide rumbling down ....

Ah hem, [clears throat as turns and faces audience].

I have been fighting a long running battle with ""The Elements Of Style"", the elemental deities of Air, Earth, Water, and Fire, the guardians of minimalism that presume the high ground of written clarity.

Once it was a nativistic movement against the ponderous 19th Century antique latin, ancient greek choked prose. Like any "revolution", it has been co-opted, car jacked by the ancient evil: The Grammar'ians. The sadistic enforcers of "rules" that will pillory the student because their greater american accent does not mirror the purity of their regional standard.

Communication through the written word is staked and whipped by these mincers of "style". They stiffle the flow of the language with a word for word nailing of every part of speech, and do little to further the ... naive dream of universal reading comprehension.

It has all the 'storm and fury', and it 'signifies nothing'. Tech writing still s'cks. Entrenched academics drape their soft science in jargon as arcane as it is devious. AND. We still need lawyers to intercede and interpret the laws that govern our society.

If you saw an imperssionistic thumbnail image of a missile silo in Washington State, filtered through a knowledge of the region and a recent reading of a post apoca' novel, then YOU 'got it'. If the trees of meaning are lost in a forest of improvisation, then feel free to abandon me in my isolationist burrow, unread and soon forgotten.

And remember when the Grammarians unleash the Elementals and flood, flame, blow, and bury your syntax ...

Hunker down and save the last adverb for yourself.

4too; A guess that a hit like this won't bother you? I love the way you write. It sort of resembles the stumblings of my own pen, at least when directed onto the swedish language. Everything I try to put down electronically as well as primitive just don't hit the chords in english.

So let's all celebrate that a linguistic genius is walking among us.

Ofcourse, I do not know you, I don't know anything about you, but that really doesn't matter now, does it?

Don't forget the Titans of the Verbs Revolt.
