Bunker Mentality
Bunker Mentality
Elissar, thanks for your time and bandwidth. I am still in that "just DO IT" , right or wrong, "just ... DO IT", period. My impressionistic eclecticism is a Jackson Pollack paint fling fest with an Anglo Saxon mediaeval border.
Step back, for I sense a back slide rumbling down ....
Ah hem, [clears throat as turns and faces audience].
I have been fighting a long running battle with ""The Elements Of Style"", the elemental deities of Air, Earth, Water, and Fire, the guardians of minimalism that presume the high ground of written clarity.
Once it was a nativistic movement against the ponderous 19th Century antique latin, ancient greek choked prose. Like any "revolution", it has been co-opted, car jacked by the ancient evil: The Grammar'ians. The sadistic enforcers of "rules" that will pillory the student because their greater american accent does not mirror the purity of their regional standard.
Communication through the written word is staked and whipped by these mincers of "style". They stiffle the flow of the language with a word for word nailing of every part of speech, and do little to further the ... naive dream of universal reading comprehension.
It has all the 'storm and fury', and it 'signifies nothing'. Tech writing still s'cks. Entrenched academics drape their soft science in jargon as arcane as it is devious. AND. We still need lawyers to intercede and interpret the laws that govern our society.
If you saw an imperssionistic thumbnail image of a missile silo in Washington State, filtered through a knowledge of the region and a recent reading of a post apoca' novel, then YOU 'got it'. If the trees of meaning are lost in a forest of improvisation, then feel free to abandon me in my isolationist burrow, unread and soon forgotten.
And remember when the Grammarians unleash the Elementals and flood, flame, blow, and bury your syntax ...
Hunker down and save the last adverb for yourself.
