I'm currently using the on-board card, and cant play in 3D

My broken card was a 9600 GFX(XXX) or something like that, it came with CoD4.

So, what should i do? Upgrade or buy another equal? Mind that money is a problem, so i'm probably not getting the 270 GT.

Budget around 300 USD, but video cards in Brazil are overpriced(about 1,5x)

It went "poof" because i let the computer on all night, and there was a power shortage. I turned the computer on in the morning and nothing appeared on screen, but the rest of computer was ok. The device manager didn't show any card except for the onboard one.

I'd say shop online. If you can afford it I suggest a Radeon HD 4870, top of the line. It's pretty ace if you ask me.

You know, my cousin went poof and it was tough but my Uncle found it in his heart to love him even still. Can't you do the same for your video card?

the exact same thing happened to me too, except that mine was a 8800 ultra :(

btw, if video cards are overpriced in brazil, why don't you order one from outside? and doesn't your video card have some sort of warranty or something like that?

As far as I know their software is as shitty as ever, but hardware is top-notch, and great bang for buck. Unless you get rash from using the Catalyst Control Center or something, I see no reason to pick NVIDIA over AMD at the moment.

And remember ATi has been more honest over the years when it comes to the capabilities of their products than nVidia... Yeah, I had to throw down that gauntlet... And I even own a 9800 GTX (not to be confused with the ATi 9800).

4870 all the way, yeah. That's what I would get instead of my current 8800GTS 512 were I buying a card now. It's about 35 percent more powerful and that's enough for any game.
