Video Cards and system requirements

I was thinking about picking up Battlefield 2 when i glanced at the system requirements. I meet all of them except for the video card says geForce 3 or better XP only. I have a geForce 4 MX 4400. Can someone tell me what this means? I'm assuming i need a better video card which sucks cause i dont have the money for one.

Yeah, MX are/were the budget lines of Geforce cards. My recommendation would be to pick up a 6600GT, they're relatively cheap and will more than handle any games out now; just make sure that you get the right interface for whatever card you buy (most likely it's AGP).

damn video cards cost more than a decent CPU these days... the 6600GT run about 150 it seems. still, better than the $250-$300+ price tag of the newest "next-gen" cards

not true, since the gf4mx's are actually an optimised gf2 that are in fact weaker than the gf3's.

a 6600GT should do the job just fine (comparable to & a bit better than the 9800pro with some added functionality)

but since you up til now ran on a gf4mx, i suppose you arent a hardcore graphics fan, so a 6600GT will surely fulfil your expectations...

Oh my! How do you survive paying so much for hardware!?!

Given that we Brits pay "numerically equivalent" prices (IE ~1.7-1.8 times what you pay in real terms), mostly, you have no room to complain.
I'm glad I'm not a graphics whore.

I also pretty sure that many have it worse than us.

is a radeon 8500 pro an OK card (i know not the most recent)? someone is gonna send me one for $20, and i thought it would be a good interim card until i can afford a more pricey one.

The 8500 is a little better than a Geforce3. You won't be getting any high frame rates from it and will have to turn down every graphics feature in newer games, but for $20 it's not a bad deal if it's better than whatever card you have now.

What you should do is go to newegg and pick up the radeon 9700 (not the refurbished).

It's a really good card for the $$, cheaper than newer cards, but has 128MB and 256bits. That's pretty darn good.

I've used it for games like Star Wars Republic Commando and it does a great job.

I'm planning on an XFX Geforce 6800GT and other high end bits and pieces. Now that will be a sweet PC.
