VtMB first playthrough version advice

Snackpack

It Wandered In From the Wastes
Hey, I just picked up bloodlines. I was couch surfing and didn't own a computer when this game came out and after playing for a couple hours I can already tell I've been missing out big time.

Anyways, I'm going to start over when I get off work tonight as I accidentally left auto-level on and got some abilities I didn't want.

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some spoiler-free advice of what version to play through on my first time with the game? 1.2? or the most recent unofficial patch, and if so, core or plus?

My first few hours were with the most recent Plus patch, but I didn't want to read the changes when I installed it due to spoilers, any advice would be appreciated.

By all means, download the 'unofficial' fan made patches. They make the game playable, but don't get rid of all the games' bugs, unfortunatedly.

1) fanmade patches are a MUST. (there's one with only bug fixes and one with game fixes in general). which you choose is your own choice. i wouldn't say one is especially better than the other.
2) do not play your first playthrough with a Malkavian or a sewerrat (read Nosferatu).
3) good luck, have fun. first time playing V:tM-B? you're in for a nice ride.

PS: the game's music is available on the CD or in the install dir, but DO NOT listen to it using WMP. it'll make your sound glitch ingame. or it used to anyway. just copy it somewhere else (local) and listen to it from there (pref using winamp or whatever anyway).
not only does the game have nice music from real bands, but the ambient stuff is very nice. (tiny spoiler: like the holywood theme, i listen to it nearly every day when i walk through the city.)

Right on, thanks for the info. While I didn't run into any bugs last night (cept for a couple CTD's while trying to feed, but as someone who has been PC gaming long enough to have a stack of bootdisks in their parents basement somewhere, that shit doesn't even phase me :) ) It does seem like the publisher forced it out the door a bit early.

As far as clan goes it's funny those two were mentioned, I looked at em both and thought "hmm, maybe after my first time through". Playing a Toreador with lockpick/hack/seduce/persuade cranked up to try to do as much as I can the first time through.

I played up to the erm... "roundtable discussion" shall we say with Jeanette and Therese, awesome stuff.

On the topic of audio players Suaside, you should check out VLC media player. The interface leaves a little to be desired, but I've never ran into a file type (either video or audio) that it wouldn't play. And it's open source freeware to boot. Never need codecs or any of that garbage for it.

VLC doesn't have the awesome PipBoy (PB2kv140) skin (look in the download section, not to mention it was made by one of our members: Gerko). :)

and i use it solely for music. video is MPC.

Why not? My first and yet only playthrough was with a Malkavian. It was hi-*la*rious. Plus the female Malkavian is the hottest PC in the game.

WATCH YOUR MOUTH !!!!
well...i played my first playthrough as a Nosferatu because i am obsessed with those creatures !
and i must say that i really enjoyed playing as a Nosferatu, because i don't socialize myself that much ! :D

To be honest it can be fun playing as a Nosferatu or Malkavian on the first run, because it stops you from following certain paths that you can as a normal vamp (toreador etc). So it makes for a better second play through. The restrictions of certain clans can make for a more interesting play as you meet characters and get dialogue that you would not have otherwise received.

brujah was kinda boring, only very challenging in a few places (as i played nearly strictly melee). toreador proficient in secondary skills and firearms should even be easier. even with the latest fan-made patches there are still glitches, but they are merely annoyances.

I didn't find too many glitches, however the one main problem I had was the broken quest where you find the cd labeled B. Tung. Other than that there were only a few small things, once there are fan patches it becomes a very good game.

suitcase for larry. and 2 others, which i cant recall. strange. but it doesnt kill your gaming experience; in case of the suitcase, i didnt use ANY stealth at all, just killed everyone inside with my trusty baseball bat - maybe that was the mistake, but it was just... fun. i ended up "saving" the briefcase in my refrigerator. i dont recall the b.tung.. can you elaborate?

i want some spoilers, just starting a new playthrough. that game is simply too awexome to not have been played through twice, at least.

prhaps a minispoiler: i found the game to be very easy, partly ridiculously easy, when you concentrate on firearms. i did so later in the game for fun reasons (reloaded an old save and changed my collected ep (~40) for pumping up perc. and firearms), and had a lot easier time.

Ok spoiler alert then:

In the Nosferatu tunnels under the cemetery, when you first arrive through the sewers when you go up the left hand path after the small lake there is a CD on the ground somewhere.
