Wasteland wasn't dead

Are you one of those that thought the Wasteland project (Half-Life mod) was dead? Well think again, because Gaist and his crew is back with Wasteland HL2. That's right, they are now using the Half-Life 2 engine to fuel their post apocalyptic mod, here's more info:<blockquote> Ladies, gentlemen, it's been a long long time since we've had a little sit-together as we do now. Welcome, to say the least, to the rebirth of an old familiar shack on this desert of a net of ours-- we've come again to bring you the carnage, chaos, and spoils of post-apocalyptic strife.

To some of you, this is a burst of nostalgia and excitement-- to others, this may well be your first time joining us; but in either instance, the gunmen ride again, and so too does Wasteland Half-Life, now in round two. In the next week or two we'll be rapidly ramping up the content on the site itself, but know in the meantime that we've already got an awesome head-start on this beautiful little monster, and with the power of the source engine beneath our reigns we can finally do those things we never could have hoped to accomplish with our ambitions for the first rendition of half-life.

In these years that have passed, some of us have gone for good, but those whom you see now have returned in full force, each unto themselves strengthened and all the more skillfull from four years of experience and practice. Make no mistake folks-- we've pulled off the considerable feat of releasing a mod before, and we're going to do it again. Stick around, set yourself up a home on the forums, and hold tight-- it's going to be a wild ride. </blockquote>Mmm goodie!

And what engine are they gonna use after that ? Unreal 3 ?

"In these years that have passed"
I sure must give him right

"power of the source engine"
Yeah nice.. If they can handle it

I have seen toooooooooo many mods changing the engine again and again, having to restart over, again.

Actually these guys stuck to the Half-Life engine for quite a long time, heck even I said they should switch engines a year back or so.

Might be. But how far did they get on the HL1 engine ? Why should they come any further ? ;-)

Cause they've got smarter, better skilled, and more xp'ed than before.

Kudos to those guys for having the willpower to start again.

Agreed. these guys have have the balls to stick to it long term, so they might eventualy make something.

Yeah, right. A lot of them play HL too.

i dunno about where you live but here on LANs we have about 1/20 being a person of the female persuation :)

extrapolate that & you'll have a bunch of ladiez playing HL around the world...

Good news. I do hope their mod won't require STEAM. :P

OT: I can as of today officially confirm that people who say HL 2 can't be "activated" and played offline are wrong...

Apart from the fact that flash thingie is the navigation they actually did a decent job at designing it. They also provide the text in HTML rather than relying on "graphical" Flash text.

Other than the pretty Flash navi the design sucks tho. While the Flash header has at least been given some consideration the HTML content is totally simplistic and unpretty -- default colored (dark blue) links on black background are a no-no and the entire style has apparently just been slapped together because most of the time was spent on making the Flash looks flashy.

As expected, the HTML is horrible and with more than 200 validation errors it is obvious that the claim of the markup being "XHTML 1.0 Transitional" has been made without any understanding of the underlying standards. Had they provided an XHTML MIME type they would have probably noticed how much they lack proper understanding of the tools they are using to hold the pretty Flash and the ugly text together.

Once again we can admire a website that has apparently been manufactured by a Flash professional who thinks that knowing design qualifies you to "make websites" and "code HTML".

Apparently the team is too ashamed of their miserable attempt at a website as that one of them would claim responsibility on the credits page and they should be.
