Hi everyone.
I have been playing Fallout 2 a few weeks now, and like it a lot. While I played I noticed a few things that I really think would add to the game.
First, I think it would be sweet if you could aim burst fire. Maybe only certain guns (assault rifle, FN FAL, or other rifle semi-autos) would be able to do this, but I think it would be a good addition. There would be penalties, and I would suggest making range penalties greater (double?). This way you could burst fire into someone's leg, and really mangle it. Sure, you can do this with single fire aim, but with a burst fire aimed shot, you would get more of a feeling of issuing a true "critical wound". Granted, this would have to have more penalties than an aimed single shot, but if one were able to get a good roll and "pass" then the aimed burst shot would truly be devastating.
Also, while speaking of targeted shots, I have another idea.
Lets say I shoot someone critically in the left leg. Instead of just standing there, as if no leg was injured, why not have the character "lean" on the stronger leg, or maybe even lean against a nearby object before discharging his firearm. Also, say you get shot in the right hand. How about you (or the enemy) have to shoot from your "switch" hand, and thus incur a penalty. Also, maybe they could make a "ambi-dexterous" perk that would allow you to shoot "switch" without a penaly.
Wait you say!! What about rifles? They require 2 hands, right? True, but if one hand is mangled, then the character could either rest the rifle on a nearby object, or more realistically, drop to the ground and shoot laying down, thus using the ground to support this rifle.
Shot in the gut or groin? How about dropping to the ground in intense pain, and having to shoot from a "injured" position.
Want to flee after having your leg shot off? You can limp away, but a "double movement cost" would be imposed.
And what about this? If you are shot in the eyes and blinded (but still live, ouch!!) you can manage to walk, but every step of movement there is a chance you will "wander" from the set hex, thus adding the feeling of being disoriented, and moving around erratically.
Sure, this is all probably very hard to program, and it might not even be able to be done. I just am really impressed with the targeting and combat system in Fallout 2, and was thinking it would be a good thing to "add on" to.
I am not saying there are problems with Fallout 2. I like it alot. In fact, it might just be the best computer game I have played. But I realize the sequels try and improve the series so I thought that I would share some of my ideas.
I just recently "discovered" this section of the board, but now that I have experienced the game a little more I will hopefully be able to put forth some decent, or at least interesting, ideas.
What do you think of these ideas? If you think they are bad, or you just don't like them, please respond and let me know. I don't mind criticism; in fact I encourage it. Just be nice. *smile*
