weapons in FOT?

I saw some of the weapons on the FOT site and I saw the Uzi, and I was wondering if the assault rifle will be replaced by a real assault rifle like an M16 or an AK-47? I mean, an M16 would make plenty of sense as it IS our country's main battle rifle...

The war starts in 2077, and I doubt they'd use such an antiquated gun that far in the future. They have an M72 in the future, and they've even perfected railgun technology to an extent that gauss rifles need no maintenance.

Maybe a better, more RELIABLE (okay, reliable PERIOD) version of the clunky-ass M16...

well, considering that they have FN FALs around (which have been around since the '50s), tommy guns (which came out after WWI) and M3A1 grease guns (used in WWII), i think that they'd have some M16's around, considering we've used them since 1963, and that our armories are jammed packed with them.

and what are you talking about? the M16 is a very reliable weapon. the only reason they didn't work well in vietnam was because the army didn't supply cleaning kits and the ball powder they used jammed the gun. after proper cleaning kits and instructions on how to maintain the rifle were introduced the M16 lost its reputation for not functioning at a crucial moment. today's M16A2 is one of the most reliable assault rifles around.

Case in point: We are America. We use the best stuff available. We use the M16.

if not the M16, then the more advanced M4. it just seems odd that the fallout universe is missing the M16 altogether.

The Fabrique Nationale - Fusil Automatique Leger (medium machine gun) has always been of a reliable manufacrute and is one of the more reliabl pieces to use. Low recoil, high-accuracy, and then it even has a laser-sight capability. Leagues beyond the M-16 or M-16IA.

Thomson's Machine Gun is also a good piece of machinery, as is the grease gun. Reliable, stable, and is effective.

Agreed, but having used many models of the M-16, they are shit, honestly. As a historical piece, I cannot refute that.

TOO reliant upon cleaning. AK-47? Needs comparatively less. Uzi? Same. Even Thomsn's needs less maintenance, even less than the A1-A2 models. That's the sole reason why the FN FAL is so good, is because it's a good piece of hardware. Why else do you think it's been used for about 50 years?

HAHAHAHHAHAH!!! *cough* Um...why does the Merc sector use FN FAL? M-16 is a joke to them. So is the M4.

It's an overrated gun, honestly.
There's quite a bit more that are more reliable, more dependant, and quite a bit more powerful then the pathetic M-16, including the A1 and A2 modification.

RE: From personal experience:

my father owns an AR-15 and I can say it is quite an awesome weapon compared to his SKS and AK47 and M1 carbine. I imagine the M16 to be of the same quality. sure, your gonna need to clean out ANY weapon after you fire a couple hundred rounds out of them. the point is that the M16 is common as hell in AMERICA, where the game takes place. if it took place in south africa, i'd imagine there'd be alot of FN FALs. but since it is america id imagine that there'd be alot of left over M16s.

(M16s are really easy to clean, anyhow. push in the take down pin, open her up, and pull out the bolt. after that the bolt comes apart real easy.)

RE:

Well, rejoice, northernlights420, there is M16 in the game. As well as Ak47, which at this point is INCREDIBLY weak, about the same level as MP5 (come on, 9mm VS. 7.62mm, wins nobody???). It doesn't even have a standard 30-round clip.

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Mar-03-01 AT 01:30PM (GMT)[p]I would think that most of the leftover M16s are 5.56mm bored barrels, less penetration I guess...

Anyway, mp5s are for short range contacts... it lacks the penetrative powers of M16s and AKs even if using 9mm rds... just like police revolvers using .38 inch caliber bullets which is ineffective beyond 100m or so.

Perhaps because of the variety of ammo types FO would have to include in the game, small arms previously not added continues to be ommited.

RE:

Let's not forget that the Sten Gun worked it's way in to this game. It's a WW2 era PIECE OF SHIT. They were cheap to produce, and about as accurate as tossing pebbles into the enemy's mouth in hopes it causes them to choke to death.

The really sad thing is that the 10MM weapons aren't in FOT. They were, after all, the "modern" version of the pistol and SMG in the Fallout universe.
