Fallout rocks.

I remember the first time i played out fallout 2. Me and the gang were already at the enclave before i realized an SMG wasn't exactly the perfect weapon to take out troopers with(yes, i managed to blast my way through almost the entire game with only an SMG). so much for happy endings. of course, it also shows you how far you can go with just a gun in one hand and a minigun-totting mutant in the other.

Which brings me to my point. I dunno if it's been mentioned before, but i really like the idea of upgrading weapons. Most of the upgrades in F2 are pretty rare-ooo, sharper spear, ooo, nicer gun. What i would like to see is weapon addons ala Jagged Alliance 2 (another rocking game) or Deus Ex. Fully customizable and stuff.

Also, before i died, i discovered smgs did maybe 1-2, maybe 4-5 damage to advanced power armour each hit. Which sucks. Realistically though, this would probably happen. But, wouldn't firing several clips into a piece of armor damage it more than just a little bit? How bout damage to armor? That would be fun.

I think adding fully customizable weapons would detract just a little from the RPG-qualities of Fallout. If every weapon was fully customizible then the game would become much more of a combat sim, rather than the RPG it is supposed to be. A few weapons that are upgradeable by NPCs as a reward is good. Too many weapons that are fully customizable by the player is overkill.

I agree that maybe armor should be subject to its own damage system. Actually the entire damage system used in Fallout isn't really all that great, but I believe that is to keep the focus of the player on the story and solving the problems that go with an RPG. A better damage system would be nice and add to the realism of the game, but I'd rather have the RPG qualities of the game kept up to their high standards.

Hmmm...good point. Given the choice, I'd choose the RPg aspect of fallout anytime over a better weapons and armor system. But it wouldn't hurt if they updated it a bit. I can't honestly recall if i ever suffered damage to a specific limb. Maybe it's just me.
