Well it started with the expansions for such a 'great' game!

Commiered

It Wandered In From the Wastes
All these will be mini expansions, they will come out after the SDK in december.

First will be 'Operation Anchorage', where you join the US military and fight against Chinese communists invading Alaska.

Second will be 'The Pitt' where you investigate the environs of Pittsburgh.

Third will be 'Broken Steel' where you are a BOS member fighting against the remnants of the Enclave.

This is truly a fucking farce in at least two of these expansions, especially the first one as how can it be Fallout when the invasion supposedly happened BEFORE the bombs fell?? Beth truly is determined to kill of every vestige of Fallout.

I got this information from a Polish portal citing sources from Bethesda so who knows....

Sounds exactly what they would do though.

Here's the URL for those that can read Polish ;)

Well i dont see it as bad thing sure i would prefere something that will change main quest and expand every aspect of game but well we cant get always what we want...

The operation Anchorage thing sounds cool, provided it's set before the nuclear war.

Well from what I understand, the Chinese invaded Alaska before the nuclear war, but then why is it in a Fallout game? Why not just make a Call of Duty game where you fight the Chinese as a US Marine? I'm sure Infinity Ward would make a better FPS with the material than Bethesda is going to.

Werl, because it's set in the Fallout alternate time-line?

Dunno, it sounds way more interesting story-wise than F3's trite writing. That said, I'm pretty sure however cool it sounds, someone somewhere will probably fuck it up by including giant godzilla monsters, ice trolls or something like that.

Honestly, the FPS will be awfull...they really aren't going to improve the combat for this, so it means VATS/MATS/BATS easy kills. Woot..real challenge there.

If they just made it into an FPS in a FO setting I would have no problem. As long as they don't try to make into more than it is, which by what it seems will just be a shooter.

Perhaps having a training mission in Mariposa Military Base or some other FO location would add a nice touch. Heck, being the reanimated soldier from SAD would be even better.

Have the game end with a flash and a shock wave and a mushroom cloud going up. We all know how it ends. For the world and for private Dobbs.

Not so keen on that first one (combat to me is less fun than having a sandbox to exist in), but The Pitt sounds interesting and it'd be nice to see the Capital Wasteland evolve a bit after the 'ending' of Fallout 3.

With the third expansion though, I'd prefer it if they let your character live on. If you didn't sacrifice yourself at the end, you should be able to continue as that character in the BoS rather than having to create a new one. I don't expect they'll do this, but it would be fun.

Hmm, I see that NMA people are a fickle bunch! First most of what I see here are complaints about how Fallout has been murdered by Bethesda, and now most of the comments have people drooling over what 'cool' new things Beth is giving them! Seems that that was their plan!

Honestly, the anchorage thing sounds better than F3's plot.

The best news to come out today is that the editor will be released, for free.

Anchorage thing actually sounds like a FPS not a role-playing scenario. Here's the blurb from Worthplaying.com:

'Operation: Anchorage. Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders. An action-packed battle scheduled for release in January.'

'Military simulation', and 'action packed battle' are two phrases that stand out here. Seems that Bethesda now wants to go the Fallout Tactics in FPS mode route.

The backstory will be turned from a cynical reality where EVERY world power did nasty things in order to get ahead, into a tale of US righteousness against an evil world. After all, this would sell better with the US as unquestioned 'good guy'. Why else make a 'military simulation' addon that focuses on the 'good fight' against the godless reds?

That Chinese and Alaska thing should be a spin-off to the Fallouyt universe. A seperate game based on FPS style gaming. I would be interested to play in it, but only as a spin-off.

Brilient! "People's Republic of Poland" is on the list :D

I have no problem with the route Bethesda is taking. Unlike most people I was utterly satisfied with Fo3, except the damned weight schemes, item degradation and poor writing.

I basically see the expansions as ways to feed more content to the Mod artists though. I mean we all know games are made by the people after the fact. Developers usually never exceed the public.

The last expansion is the one Im looking forward to the most though. Cant wait to see how the area pans out with clean water.

Dragula, I think you'll find that that list is quite erroneous, often counting western atrocities as communist ones, ie. it was the US not the communists that killed by far the most civilians in Vietnam and Korea. Funny how the centuries of western 'democratic' or 'christian' imperialism and the hundreds of millions that died as a result of it isn't mentioned. Western crimes far outweigh communist ones.

Being Polish I have to laugh at the fact that the PRL is on the list. Poland actually executed less people and shot less protesters than the USA!

But back to the topic at hand, when the US becomes a colony of China, there will be a redressing of scenarios in games and we'll get to play as the Chinese for a change ;)

I know, didn't they get the memo? Everyone is supposed to automatically hate everything from now on! You're not allowed to be hopeful!

Yes. Hadn't read the entire thing, only your mention of the scenario in the first post of this thread.

A shame they're going even more into FPS, as the setting could be much more varied and interesting than the trite story told in F3. There could be all kinds of things going on; an insight into the chinese invaders, the sense of desperation over the last drops of oil, insurgents, paranoid military commanders rounding up 'non-patriotic elements', et cetera et cetera.

Instead of that, the plot will probably be "pew pew".

Myeah, it's a shame they twisted the BoS being valiant knights, rebuilding the 'true america' and your character rescuing Lincoln accessories For Great Justice.

That said, the 50's were the epitome of red paranoia, especially in the US. Reds as main enemy is in accordance to Fallout's back-story.

Plus, they had to use those uniform models somewhere.

Being Polish I have to laugh at the fact that the PRL is on the list. Poland actually executed less people and shot less protesters than the USA!

Uh. Well, besides the fact it's a bit ridiculous to present the commie bodycount without mentioning the crimes commited by the States and its assorted McHitlers...

Don't forget the atrocities of the fifties and sixties, nor the fact a lot of people got sent to 'prime resorts' in Siberia.
