West Coast or East Coast

Maybe they should totally break away from the current story, go to the east coast, New York City, who knows, maybe you have been sent by arroyo to figure out what has happened to the east coast and about the US Government. Kinda Far fetched i know, it would take too much programming, but it would be interesting. A very non-specific idea that of course would have to be alaborated on, but i am too lazy right now.

Hey maybe even a new continent. I would like to see what happened to the rest of the world.

Then it wouldn't be Fallout anymore...most of us are used to the fact that FO is based in a small section of America...not that Im against seeing what happened to the rest of the world but the balance of playability, believability , and expansion of the series must be maintained.

Maybe you took this wrong. I fogot to mention I would not like to see this in Fallout 3 but in the future. When they are done with the USA they could move on to different continents.

There would be a slight linguistic problem as not everyone speaks english as their first language so you might need something like a universal translator or something.

How about they just have a nice big quake the sends California to the ocean. Then place FO3 in Nevada and what little is left of California.

Perhaps a little of both.

It's an idea. Arroyo send a team of 4 persons, a scientist, a thief (stealthcommando), a fighter (guard/commando), a diplomate and someone/thing else. (these are premade characters, if you create one yourself you'll replace one), but allong the way, at about 200 miles from your final destination some strange atmospheric disturbance causes the Vertibird to crash, only one survives (gee, who would that be?) From there on you'll have to focus on finding out what cause you to crash, find civilisation and finally a way to get back home (wich will be a lot more important than you think right now, cause whatever cause the disturbance isn't planning on settling for just the east coast).

If you'll get back (even if that's only 10% of the game) you'll have to stop the new enemy and you'll get to see both east and west. Cause to be quite honest, I want to New Arroyo and what has become of the west since fallout 2.

RE: Perhaps a little of both.

I don't know about that, but at some point I'd like one set in Europe (well, England, but realistically Europe as a whole would be better. Why not take a log canoe across the channel? :).

That's not too much extra programming...

The scenery in Fallout 2 is totally new, except Vault 13, Military Base, NCR (Shady Sands) and Vault 15. Believe me, those guys at BIS aren't lazy! BTW, I don't think they'd use the same 2D game engine in FO3, it's just too old...

RE: Perhaps a little of both.

WAY TO GO!!! that is actually a very good idea and i hope someone writes it down to send to BIS whenever they actually start on the game. that really is cool, it would have to be elaborated on, and changed. Theres no way they'd be able to make NPC's and areas for the entire US, so they'd probly be something like this: the Midwest is entirely desolate (think about it, thats where we've got the majority of our silos at in real life, so it'd get hit pretty hard) so the game could be split between the West and East coasts. You could fly your vertibird (not a car, too many rads....) to the edge of the map or something, and 'POOF!' some time has passed and your on the East coast map. you wanna go back, just fly the other way. I also like the idea of the enemy be from the east. It could even be some rival civilization (the People Unite Republic of New York, or something) assumed that the west was destroyed. but since YOU show up, they decided, that your a threat, and decide to mount an invasion, or possibly a nuclear first strike. Good way to spice up the endgame a little: you could either make the Easterners see the light and abandon their war like ways, or...(sniker sniker) alert the NCR and get THEM to strike first against the easterners. C'mon it'll have been 260 years since the bombs dropped, so you KNOW someone's got nuclear capabilitys by now.

Why does east have to be evil?

The Eastern people don't have to be the bad guys, just a small part of them that somehow feels superior (why? I'll leave that to your imagination) is planning on conquering/enslaving/destroying them, and then proceding to the West. During the game you'd find out that they have been using the EM field to stop outsiders from contacting the Eastcoaster or communicating with them, so that their plans can be carried out in secrecy without anyone else noticing, yet. You'll find out that your the first to get through (Europeans had tried and died before) and they are trying to kill you in order to prevent you from informing anyone that they West has survived too, cause everyone in the east has practically given up any hope of help with rebuilding civilisation. note: they do not yet know of the threat of the unknown enemy.

As for what I described before:

You could actually implement the entire crashing part into the intro FMV. Let's say using the song 'It's a wonderful world' wich is sang by the same guy from 'maybe' and what was the other?

At 'I see trees of green' you could show burned down forests from out of the vertibird and stuff like that, really ironic, and finally at 'it's a wonderful world' you'd see a flash and the ground closing in. The intro idea is actually over 9 months old and writing by someone else, I couldn't find it cause this boards history only goes to jan-00 (And I can't qoute it straight from my mind since I don't even know the entire song, hell, I don't even know who sang it). It was slightly different but really cool.

Will, I am.

RE: Why does east have to be evil?

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Jul-04-00 AT 07:50PM (GMT)[p]When I refered to the East as evil I was implying the ruling faction. I mean, no entire civilization can be evil. But the ruling faction could easily be evil. I like your idea about them trying to keep the east Isolated from the reast of the world. The easiest way to maintain power in an area is to control everything that the general populous sees or hears as much as you can. If there is no outside influence, then you can spread false propoganda all you like, and they'll never know. And the whole 'evil master plan' thing is always a favorite. And I think I know what song your talking about. It's the one they use on the allegra commercials I think. Anyway, a very good candidate for and Intro song I would say. Another thing: you would have to be carefull about who you tell what, because most people would believe the ruling faction, and thus they wouldn't believe you if you said you were from the west (kinda like saying you were from a vault in FO1). And any kind of powerhungy orginization will have spies etc. in the general population.
Another thing for their master plan could be: The only reason their in power is because they control all the water/food/medicine or something, so people have to depend on them. But the more the world recovers from the holocaust, then the more pure water there will be, there will be better crops, etc. If this continues, people wont need the ruling faction anymore, and there goes their power. Thus, to maintain their power, they have to find some way to keep the world a wasteland by increasing the radiation levels or something like that, maybe even detonate a few nuclear devices.
Just a thought...

RE: Why does east have to be evil?

I hope this isn't so long that noone will take the time to read it.

" I like your idea about them trying to keep the east Isolated from the reast of the world. The easiest way to maintain power in an area is to control everything that the general populous sees or hears as much as you can. If there is no outside influence, then you can spread false propoganda all you like, and they'll never know."

Like in WWII, most of the germans never really realized what was going on, even though in Holland (right next to Germany, west, just in case) we find that kinda hard to believe. But the way you bring it it sounds like the people know that they depend on this Evil faction. I originally meant that the people of the East wouldn't be aware of the fact that they are being controlled (you could use that later in the game, by exposing the Shadow Government, so to call it, and leading a rebellion, so this time you won't become an exiled hero, or a President, but a revolutionairy) The 'shadow government' or whatever the power is called would control people through small companies or something wich at first sight don't have anything in common.

"And any kind of powerhungy orginization will have spies etc. in the general population."

And dubbelspies, how about that? What I'm talking about? A small and weak resistance group which would be willing to help you, in exchange for... This small resistance group of people who either are paranoid or accidentally found out could be lead by a man named Sculder and a women, Mully. (just a little fallout-type joke) You would during the game also be able to convince other factions (towns or Raiders) to join you, and the resistance of course. Do a couple of quests like going to places such as S.A.D. or the Gunrunners.

" The only reason their in power is because they control all the water/food/medicine or something, so people have to depend on them. But the more the world recovers from the holocaust, then the more pure water there will be, there will be better crops, etc."

I left away the part about needing the Evil faction, since in my book they still don't know there is such a thing. The have been cut of from al communications and other forms of contact since day 1, for as far as they are concerned they might be the only survivors of the war. The needing of food is good, cause even if you destroy the very thing that is regulating the radiation it might take years for the wastes to slightly recover. You can use that in your speach to get the rebellion started, 'the New Arroyo Republic can help if we could somehow get a message to them and deactivate this magnetic field.'.

"maybe even detonate a few nuclear devices."

Can also be used in the end, once the Shadow Government realises it's losing it's power FAST, they'll threaten to set of the remaining nukes. As soon as you have defeated it (or at least think so), you'll see an FMV showing you aircrafts taking of from the facility (probably hidden like a vault) and heading away... WEST! But luckily, they left a few Flyingmachines (I doubt they'll have vertibird too, that would be to factions, wich never had contact, having the same tech) and you'll head back after them. To finish the game in the west, protecting your home. (This way I still get to see New Arroyo too)

I CAN spell (a little, and then only in dutch)

LOL

LOL, I think you've gone too far. The hero doesn't have to be American if the action is not based in USA. If it happens let's say in Tansania he/she will be Tansanian, if it happens in Russia he/she will be Russian, if it happens in Italy he/she will be Italian. Why not? The hero doesn't has to be relative to Chosen One any more. Think of BOS: they use a guy absolutely unknown in Fallouts 1 & 2 and it doesn't seem to be bad or uninteresting.
The only problem will be that all the pics (graffiti etc.) have to be in the language of the country (strange to see a sign "City Council" in Beijing?) and it will be hard to understand.

well isnt tactics starting out in chicago? i suppose anything is possible but i kinda like the fact htat the fallout series is set in my home state. of course i wouldnt be opposed to seeing it set either around the four corners area and texas, or maybe up north like oregon, washington and canada. but when you say east coast and stuff, i shrugg. why? id like hte storyline ocntinued in some way. but we must end the whole blood line thing.

RE: Why does east have to be evil?

Hell, you could hire a group of Khans, the daring raiders-for-hire, to help out, though you'd have to make 'em look like freedom fighters or something

RE: That's not too much extra programming...

Actually they are lazy, in my opinion (much as I love FO2) the second game was just a rehased and stretched out version of the first. I didn't even consider getting FO2 at full price. When Ibought it it only cost me £7.99 which was worth it, but not at the full price. It is too much like an over sized expansion pack than a proper full stand alone game.

WHERE SHOULD I POST?

I'm writing a story right now wich takes place in the area I discussed, should I post it here or at fan fiction?

Cuius testiculos habes, habeas cardia et cerebellum.

Seems to me the Canadians or the Chinese may harbor a grudge. What about their government (whats left) sending in an agent to see what kind of condition the good ol' USA is in. Alot of new stuff could be added, similar tech but a little different, British Bren guns, Dragunov Sniper rifle etc.
