whats up with this thing??? whenever you do a shortened internet speak you it says something like " due to a chemical inbalance in my brain i am a complete fucking moron blah blah blah" if this is a virus then someone is in need of electric shock treatment. and if the board admin did this then its very bad taste

Yeah I noticed it on some o the other ones...theres a headline saying "Butcher the english language at your own peril" too. Now it's nice an all to keep correcting ppl that cant type right (like me)
BUT ITS JUST STUPIUD TO PASTE A SUCH A SENTENCE AFTER EACH ERROR!
It makes most texts absolutely unreadable.

Oh and BTW Fallout Tactics is so disliked because you don't have any freedom of action at all. ;-)
 
IMHO there is nothing wrong with a little abbreviation, however some people just take it to an extreme. Let us not judge people by how they type, but by what they type. A good idea presented badly may loose some of its appeal, but a bad idea presented well is still a bad idea (unless it is presented to an idiot, in which case, all bets are off).

Seriously, this is a message board. You have all the time in the world to write it out, it's not like a chat or an online game where you need to have an ungodly typing speed before you are fragged or whatever. For a message board, if you are going to present your ideas to a public forum of conversation, it's not a good idea in the first place to sound like a complete grade-school drop-out. To the USanians: there's people from Iraq who can demonstrate English more fluently. Not to mention the 23+ other countries we have visiting here. Please try not to embarass us by looking like you are chewing on the keyboard, okay? :)
 
Let's also not forget that how you type is a reflection of your ability to get your point across. If you don't care enough to take the time to type out a simple THREE letter word, you're going to come across as a complete moron to most people.

Besides, it's a lousy habit to get in to. It's almost as stupid as teaching ebonics in school. They're both comparable.

So, Rosh is right here, and Greg is right for doing it on Vault13.net. If only more sites would do this, people would be a lot better off.
 
Yeah it happened to me, because I chose to right "ur" instead of your. Its a bad habbit I know, maybe Im gaming to much and I dont want to get in a big debate over not speaking *PROPER* English, considering I do English at A level, blah, blah, blah, etc but I think its quite amusing when it happens. Maybe my English teachers are stalking me (paranoia has now set in yippee!)
