where are the guns?

Hey!

I was reading the walkthroughs and everyone was saying how, when they got to Preoria they used combat shotguns, and how these guns are great against Deathclaws. But so far I have not found any and I am off to Quincy! Where are they?
 
There's one in Quincy. That's the hostage situation right ? Anyway, most people probably got theirs from some random encounters in the wasteland.

Hey JR-

I am not playing my FOT on the hard setting but on the medium. Ok! So I'm a whimp! This is my first time and I want to be a bit gentle!

Does setting the level of difficulty affect the random enounters or does it also affect the type of enemies you face (better weapons, more of them, and more health points, lower percentage rolls?) What are the differences between medium and hard.

The differences mostly are that you face tougher enemies. They still are the same but do more damage and hit you more often.

About the shotguns. I found mine pretty early by finding the trader, merchant and or hermit encounters. They have some pretty nifty stuff. Barter for it or OD them and you can take their stuff.

Dear JR-

Thanks for the tip. I am off to Quincy now. Only it seems that I have shot off half my hunting rifle/AK47 ammo! And I don't have that much shotgun ammo either!

YOu couldn't tell me where to find a trader/merchant/hermit on the road could you?
 
Random encounters like these are found in some spots on the worldmap. These spots are always the same but the encounter might change so you might get the trader encounter or you might get the useless Amelia encounter for example so it's a bit hard to pinpoint their exact location. You could travel the wasteland for a bit and see where you get one of these special random encounters and go over that square again and again. I sometimes found 3 of these encounters in one square.
