Why would they delay a title that'd make'em earn?

G'Day!

Why has it taken'em SOOOO long to get it going with F3? There would have been a market for it just months after F2 was released! I'm not saying F3 should have been released then, just that YEARS have passed since everyone completed the last in the series and that F3's release ought to have been due for a long time.

Well a couple of things are the reason for this:

1. the most important reason is that Baldur's Gates became instantly more popular after it's release. Fantasy and AD&D seems to be the norm for current CRPGs.

2. The Black Isle teams were already working on several other projects. They didn't have anyone to make FO3 yet.

3. It was already decided that a 3d engine would be used for FO3, but they didn't know if they'd build it theirselves or if they would use an existing engine.

4. Fallout 2 was rushed. As a result it was full of bugs and there are a few loose ends in the game. If they would have started on FO3 right away, they would have made the same mistake and that could have been the end of the series.
