There are perfectly reasonable explanations for those stats. The gouls have better vision because ..uh..they have..uh..they can see in the infrared and ultraviolet spectrum because their eyes..uh..have extracted their beta-caroten different from vitamin A..and uh..changed it into gamma-caroten. And if they weren't that lucky they wouldn't survive the radiaton. Only the luckiest bastards survive!
