I've seen some strange inconsitancies in my characters vulnerability to MG fire. It usually goes like this: I'm
fighting supermutants at long range, rifle vs. Browning. Rage
is lying there, happily shooting away. The muties are shooting
at him again and again and missing every time.

Then, I'll have Farsight or Stitch crawl up next to Rage to
add a little firepower. Everytime, poor Farsight or Stitch
gets hit for over 100 points and gutted alive by the first
mutant shot. This happens a lot, it's really common for me
to see Rage sitting there surrounded by piles of his comarade's
guts.

Everyone's AC and luck are about the same, is there anything
else that should make this happen?

Yeah I've noticed that too, but I assumed it was related to Luck. Get the Dodge perk - it should help. Are they both wearing the same armor?

There mitght be another reason. Minigun fire is burst fire, meaning that the bullets don't get all get fired in the same direction. Has to do with the recoil. Anyway, they might be aiming for Rage but missing him and because of the recoil effect they might be hitting someone else.

Nunc ut nunquam

I guess that is plausible, but generally in that situation one of the PC's gets hit at a higher degree than the other. It's almost as if one is out of range but the other is not.

Yeah, you were right. Now that I've started using heavy
weapons, I can see what happens: the area effect seems to
be independant of the range. So, if you're using a browing
MG at long range, (i.e., very low % to hit), the person you're
shooting at is fairly safe, but everyone around him/her is in
danger! If you're shooting at a crowd, that means that your
target should be the one you're least interested in killing.

Kind of a glitch, IMHO.

Tom.
