Wii homebrew

It Wandered In From the Wastes
If this is a grey-area topic, vats away. Though I can't see how, if I taught my toaster to play mp3s it wouldn't be a problem right?

Just wondering if anyone out there has tried the Twilight Princess hack and installed the homebrew channel on their wii?

I'm going to give this a shot when I get a chance. I bought a wii when I frist saw one available. Mario and Zelda are solid games, and Wiis RE4 is the best version of that game. Other than that though theres nothing on it that interests me and the thing has been a little white brick under my TV for months now.

I haven't looked into all the apps available yet, but here are the 2 reasons I'm looking into it:

There's a wii version of ScummVM. Classic adventure games while sprawled out on the couch with a beer in one hand? Yes please.

Also a wii version of Snes9x is out. Haven't looked into whether or not it has classic controller or gamecube controller support, but if so that would be badass as well. I imagine Nes and Genesis emulators are on their way to the platform as well.

So yeh, anyone have any success with wii modding ?

My best friend has installed that homebrew channel on his Wii. Won't go into further details but I can tell you : it's well worth it...

Homebrew can be rewarding - even more so if you are planning to create some homebrew. But keep in mind some things. First, homebrew is essentially freeware that designed to run on a console. It is more convenient to run on your TV and can sometimes support multiple controllers, but it is almost always harder to program for a console than for a PC (because of the lack of documentation, etc.). Then end result is that most homebrew isn't all that great and most isn't near as polished or as fluid with controls as a retail game or PC freeware (although with so much shovelware for the Wii you might feel that you have more chances of finding something that you like).

List of Homebrew Applications

As far as how successful most people are in modding the Wii, my brother modded his Wii with the Twilight Princess hack with relative ease. I would recommend you read up on trying it, but if you only have 3 games on the Wii that you like (and you have money to spend), then I would say that you should check out the reviews on some of the few more intelligent games available on the Wii that you can buy retail - No More Heroes, some other FPSs, Mercury Meltdown, Zack & Wiki, Sam & Max, Strongbad's Cool Game, Boom Blox, de Blob, Bully: Scholarship Ed., and future games Madworld, Broken Sword, the Conduit, and Deadly Creatures.
