Will Fallout get more popular?

Bullseye

First time out of the vault
Are Fallout 1 & 2 games which still get new players or are the ones who play it a.t.m. the only people who will keep playing it?

What is the opinion of the NMA-members on this subject and do you think that we, the chosen ones :P, should bring a revolution to the world and create the ever lasting Imperium of the Fallout-loving citizens?

just let me know what you think (and no i'm not crazy, just a little different:P)

IMO, if FO3 turns out good and true to the franchise, new players will definately try the old games, too. But, if it will be "Oblivion with guns", Bethesda fanbois will not play FO1 & FO2, because there ain't no shiney graphics and dumbed down interface and such. Overall, it's a matter of target audience. If the main target audience is FO fans (which i seriously doubt) then old games will become more popular amongst new players.

I just started playing Fallout in the past two years, so to answer your question yes it will continue to attract new players. A great game is timeless regardless of the current trends in game design.

Fallout will be popular, regardless of being good or true to the franchise. Bethesda is the flavor of the month and it will gather a following. If things turn out as I fear however, it will be highly unlikely that the 'new' fanbase will enjoy the old fallouts.

"lawl, i dunt play old 'n ugly games"

Look at their treatment of Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth compared to Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Both games came out within a month of each other and both have a definite niche market of fans guarenteed to be interested in them. Oblivion got a press orgy, huge marketting campaign, loads of support and a decently polished finished product. Call of Cthulhu got a buggy, mostly finished rush job with zero press, not even an announcement of the release date until a week beforehand. It's all about the treatment.

CoC is one of the finest survival horror game and gave me better gameplay experience than Boredlivion. The shock element, lack of crossair, clever design health system, Cthulhu myst haunt me for 2 weeks.
TES is Crapthesda's own franchise hence the full hype and market bombardment.
Whereas CoC is made by Headfirst Productions, Crapthesda is the publisher. Hell they don't even release any damn official PC patch. Talk about screwing other's work

niche market?

dude, TES4 deals to the lowest common denominator, not a niche market...

I try my absolute best to convince my friends and others to try Fallout.

In any case, Fallout is an epic game and will always keep on generating fresh adopters, probably until the real apocalypse happens.

It isn't a matter to argue about. I just wanted to show the treatment difference between those games.
