Win2k startingproblem with fallout 1

Enlil

First time out of the vault
I've just installed the german version of Fallout 1 like descriped in the article. When I now try to start it, the "Please stand by"-screen occurs but then I am back on the desktop. I've tried the patch for version 1.2 but it's still the same.

My system is an Athlon XP 2700+, TNT2 Ultra GFXcard and 512 MB RAM and there are about 50 Gb of free space.

Here is my CFG:
[system]
critter_dat=E:\Fallout\critter.dat
critter_patches=E:\Fallout\data
master_dat=E:\Fallout\master.dat
master_patches=E:\Fallout\data
art_cache_size=261
language = german
[sound]
music_path2=e:Fallout\data\sound\music
free_space=0

Copy the music folder, master.dat, and critter.dat from the Fallout CD into your directory. Then change the .ini accordingly.

If that doesn't help, try disabling hardware acceleration in video options.

The files you mentioned were already on my HD but I copied them again. Nothing changed.
After deactivating the harware acceleration not even the loadingsreen appeared. )c:

I run Win2K Pro w/SP4 on my homebuilt PC and did the manual install of Fallout 1. It seems to work OK. This may be an obvious question, but is your HDD letter 'E' or 'C'?

You CFG file has the paths as 'E'. If the HDD is 'C', make the changes and try it.
