Witcher: loading times protip

HoKa

Still Mildly Glowing
Though I still think the game sucks, many people here care about the game so I'll give away a nice (though somewhat obvious) tip that reduced my loading times from 2-3 minutes to 10-20 seconds:

Defrag your HD after installing the Witcher and the most recent patch (preferentially using a potent defrag software, i.e.: COMPLETE/Name in O&O Defrag 10 Pro).

Seems like the Witcher (or it's patch) enjoys installing the meshes00.bif and textures00.bif files in the most fragmented way possible.

Hope it helps!

Reliable sources say there's a new patch coming up in December. It's supposed to optimize loading and saving times in the games.

I remember defrag my HDD like in Win98 with my 10GB HDD, lulz.
Since i got 320GB storage i never used that tool again also XP defrag is kinda crappy.

Already finished it... might be tempted to rerun after the patch :)

After a year without defrag, I recently defragged an 80gb drive with PerfectDisk and performance of Windows, which is installed on that drive, have improved noticeably. This isn't just placebo effect... I specifically wanted to see if there's a difference.

The fact is... yes, NTFS is very good about reducing excessive file fragmentation, but it does not prevent it - it only slows it down compared to a disastrous filesystem like FAT32.

Recent discovery:

Patch 1.1 handles loading times much better than 1.1a. Much better.
