World In Conflict - Sierra's new baby

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!

The demo was released yesterday and holly Hanna am I excited to see this coming from Sierra.

WIC is being marketed as a strategy/FPS. The thought of Red Dawn the FPS/Strat is an awesome one at that.

The forums for WIC seem to be down at the moment, anyone else have any news on this? I've seen the add in Maximum PC a few times and finally decided to check it out.

Meh, I played it cause you posted it. It's alright, at least it isn't like Ghost Recon. Anti-tank infantry own.

Good americans fighting bad russians? I've never seen that before. What a refreshing concept for this exciting game!

I liked the trailer, tho'.

Hah I love how the beginning of the demo takes place in my own back yard! I've enjoyed the game so far. Not original enough eh? I thought it was fairly unique compared to most other combat game story lines... In fact, I can't recall playing one involving the US and Russia.

Edit: After beating the demo... I heard the end credit song... lawl
Also, I guess the NW is not so much of a surprise since Sierra is based here... And the whole hard to defend thing.

I have tested a beta without multiplayer, and the game sucks. Arcade RTS style, few tactical options, retard story....

Have you ever heard of Command and Conquer?
You mean Red Alert. Command and Conquer did not have Russia and the USA.

Fuckin' awesome demo. Very difficult though, especially to keep an eye on everything at once. Looking forward to the game, I just wish I had a better PC so I could play it in Dx10.

Command and Conquer: Red Alert

Same thing.

So... thats what that red PC game box is among my collection of game boxes. So thats one game... I can't recall any others. It doesn't seem like an overly used story line to me. It's no Vietnam or WWII game.

Well, way back when in the eighties it was more common as a storyline, I believe. And there are a few games that feature alternate history storylines with a surviving USSR fighting the USA.

Also, is Vietnam that overdone? I can't remember many games that used it as a backdrop. World War 2 is much, much, much, much worse in that respect.

Men of Valor
Conflict: Vietnam
Battlefield Vietnam
Vietcong
The Hell in Vietnam
Vietnam: Black Ops
ShellShock: Nam '67

There is a mess more... Seems to be an odd fascination among developers.

There's not that many more, certainly no where near as many as WW2 based games. There is a natural progression from WW2 games, I think someone did one Korean War game but that was too close to WW2 in terms of weapons and equipment. Though Vietnam based games do seem to be a bit of a flash in the pan, developers have gone back to WW2 or Modern day/near future.

The cold war on the other hand hasn't been touched on in years, except for Red Alert, Operation Flashpoint and perhaps Hammer & Sickle.

Vietcong had a very good atmosphere! It looked like something which would have more suited the late '90s, but it was good, yes.

And the Soviet/neo-Soviet vs. Ammies storyline is very common or at least more mainstream than vietnam. (for example Red Alert 1/2, Operation Flashpoint, Ghost Recon 1, Call of Duty 4 will feature a storyline around this concept and now WiC)

Ahh... Vietnam... I'd love to see a new a game based around it.

Or how bout a realistic / more believable storyline? Ammies against the Chinese! (chinese are the same as old soviets... they're commies and they have copied many russian military stuff)

On Topic: WiC looks and plays nice! A real change from Age of Empires/War(star)craft derived gameplay.

saw this at a friend today .. we had high expectations .. boy were we wrong ...

it sure is pretty .. very very very pretty but

gameplay seems so far extreemly shallow - we were hoping for coh or warhammer level of depth .. uhm ... no not here (not to say that those 2 were deep but .. well we didnt want more)

it just is very arcadeish and you dont percieve a lot of whats happening ...

story is very cheezy so far and not very believable but i guess you could turn a blind eye.

to be fair its easy to play it .. there are scores of enemies that are very weak and its easy on the eyes ...

Yeah, I think for me the largest issue was the lack of an economic system.

Anyone remember Freedom Fighters? It is a fairly decent game, with a sequel in the works, or so I hear.

Anyways, we need more WW1 FPSs. No, Iron Storm doesn't count.
