Just the fact that UO killed Ultima, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what's going to happen. Since an online game is more...well, online, it has more widespread coverage due to the numerous guilds that spread up, recruit, etc.

That's what happened with UO, is that Ultima came to mean "shitty online game that sucks ass compared to most MUDs", rather than "an RPG that is about the exploration of a character", since after all the Ultima series really was about the Avatar.

I could go back into the history of it all again, but it would happen all over again. Like what games are Sony/Verant known for? Sure as hell isn't some of the PSX titles. They're now known only for EQ.

Same thing with Microsoft. There's a few games that they are known for, but none so much as Asheron's Call, now.

So when the name of Fallout begins to mean "online kill-fest", then it's already dead, despite the Ultima 9. I mean, Fallout 3 RPG, if there's one coming.

I agree with you roshambo, i guess we`re on a seminal point to fallout and the fo communitty, if there`s really one...
but my question stands, should you guys just ignore FOOL, make a new board or something else?
Well, i think i will ignore it, but it`s time for NMA to think about it...

I shudder to think what kinds of people a pro-FOOL board would attract...

Yeah:

Now you see why we are nearly militant in how we defend Fallout. It's a great game and all, but I don't want Fallout to become known as a combat game. It will be seen as what sells the Fallout name, and then another great is lost.

I found this bit about Fallout Tactics pretty fucking hilarious:

"All the best things about Fallout (sic) rolled into a turn-based strategy! Tear it up with your squad in the most beloved of game worlds, the Fallout Universe."

Would that be the 'combat' part, since that's what the game (Fallout Tactics) is about? I guess the rest wasn't important anyway, so it's probably good they got rid of it.

Please note the heavy sarcasm.

[font color=#d1d1d1]Man that is so fucking wrong, it's funny. The greatness of the game was the interactivity and the chance of what you say to Joe Schmoe might be the last thing to come out of your mouth. You never got that feeling with any other CRPG or a console RPG for that matter(ofcourse I never got the chance to play Wasteland.) Albiet a wonderful combat system came packed in the deal its main draw for me has always been the old school role playing feel of the game. I guess that is the very reason I was attracted to the idea of a certain unmentionable series crushing game idea(hint hint.) I never thought for an instant that the combat system could stand alone and still represent the FO series in any sense.
I will probably buy the game just for the Fallout name but really? Should I? Or maybe I should start up a petition for people who, like me, fancy the idea of a boycott. You know lay down on the cogwheels of the machine. Stop this shit dead in its tracks! FUCK TACTICS! >(hmmmmmmmmmmmmm? What do you think?

RE: Shiiat

It's not post-apocalyptic, but I like the sentiments behind it. I've also applied to beta test it too, since I've got a lot of background.
