I have know parents who tried to shape their kid and it fails terribly. You put a miniature football in the crib, and the kid becomes an artist.
or the kid wait until teenager years, goes total rebel- gives up the jock lifestyle and goes goth.
But at the same time I have noticed that often-
Kids whose parents were teachers, become teachers.
Kids whose parents were lawyers, become lawyers.
Kids whose parents were cops, become cops.
I am not saying this is always true for all kids. It would be wrong to suggest that your parents career will necessarily be yours.
But if you draw your sample from a community of individuals- lawyers, doctors, academics, cops- etc, you will often find that a large percentage of children follow in their parents footsteps.
Furthermore, even if they don't pursue their careers, they often replicate their social group (for example the child of a cop becomes a fireman, a lawyer, a bureaucrat or other civil servent). Social classes are often harder to escape than we imagine.
Many people would argue- it comes down to choice- well not allways.
Some choices are constrained by your upbringing, and kids learn by replicating what they see. If a kid grows up in a teacher's lifestyle, than they might want to have that lifestyle too- because they are comfortable with what they know.

What was interesting was that some of the issues raised by the Eugenics movement- are still topical and relevant.
For example- what is the consequence of venereal disease, alcoholism on future generations? What is the likelihood that mental retardation is a consequence of genes? What kinds of diet creates the best health and how does that affect your children?
Those are issues that we still address, and rightly so. What is interesting was how those values got warped into a final solution and the extermination of millions.

Well if one were to slaughter every Goth that ever was, and wipe out the history of Goth from all publications, than what?
Chances are your kids would probably find some other way to rebel, because rebellion in teens is probably part of the development of identity and individualism- a common process most of us go through.
I suggest that you be careful how much you give to genetic factors in shaping who you are. Perhaps you might be more "left-side of the brain" or more "right side of the brain" depending on who you parents are- but mutation is constant. Perhaps you are also the first "artistic" individual of a family of accountants.
That said, you are asking lots of questions and not making many points. What are you trying to argue or claim here?

When talking about a baby/ child/ teenager or better yet human being one MUST take into account BOTH the child's POTENTIAL and the ENVIRONMENT in wich they are raised. From the Combination of these two broad classes of variables emerges the unique person. The ideal thing to do would be to find out what is the potential of each child, find out if the child wants to go down that road and if he does stimulate him/her and offer the best possible environment and just hope for the best.
