Yeah, 2mm EC Is Rare...But Is This A Bug??

First time out of the vault
Searching through the NMA Vault Computer Archives, I see snatches of info relating how relatively rare the 2mm EC ammo is, due to its fairly regular availability in NCR and New SF only, but on the rare occasions when New SF does stock it (NCR dwarves seems to have stopped, on the last few occasions I visited it), it's only like x150 at most, and sometimes as low as x50!

When I first got the Gauss Rifle, I was able to procure like 900 rounds of it...now, it's rarer than gold in the Wasteland!

I heard about some kind of "too-many-items-in-inventory" bug, and it does occur from time to time with the disappeared Skilldex Button, but I've not had it so bad...my guys are down to like 32 rounds....

So any way to get more 2mm EC rounds?? I read that the Enclave Oil Rig is full of it, but I want it now....

Remember you can unload weapons in shops. Maybe the gun shop in SF has a new Gauss Rifle or Pistol in addition to some 50 shots. Then go to NCR and pick up 50 more. Make the SF-NR-NCR round a few times. You shouldn't need more than 1-2 shots to off someone, so they will last you a while.

I have my NPCs using Gaus Rifles, and I guess they're not as proficient as me since I'm Level 61 now...the reason I need so many 2mm EC is 'cause I'm leveling up (all the way to 99! Hehehe) and I want to see how "tricked-out" my character can get....

Yeah, I do the SF-NCR gun-run, but...I hate shopping! There's no guarantee anyone has 'em, and usually it's just another 50-150 rounds for the next week of gametime....

I think I may just resort to having my NPCs use other less-lethal weapons in order to hang on to the 2mm EC...BTW, what's "EC" for??

You could give them sniper rifles or Pancor Jackhammers, the latter is particularly a great weapon, and you can find 12 ga. shells almost anywhere.

EC stands for Explosive Charge, if I recall correctly.

If you ditch your companions and level-grind solo around Navarro, you should have a net gain of 2mm ammo, even if you dispatch the enclave patrols with your trusty Gauss pistol (I'm assuming you have Sniper by level 61!). In a patrol of about 6 soldiers, at least one or two will be carrying a loaded Gauss pistol, and maybe some spare ammo. Dispatch them first, obviously, so they don't waste their ammo on you!

I always thought EC stood for "electrically conductive" or "electromagnetic current" or something. I don't think it's spelled out in any of the games. 2mm seems is far too small to be "explosive charge"...

here's a trick for you:

traders in san fransisco replenish their inventory with the items you buy. let's say you bought all the stimpaks and MFC, next time they update their inventory they will bring more stimpaks and MFC.

if you have 150 x 2mm ec just sell it to the traders and buy it back. after a couple of days they will have more 2mm ec for you. but they don't have more than 200-250 most of the time. well if you want an item that's the way you get it.

I'm fairly sure that the restocking code doesn't take their current inventory into account. If they already have copies of item X those are removed before restocking, but they don't have a higher chance of restocking just because they don't have it.

Per is correct (yeah, like that's a shocker :) ). I'm looking at the scripts for both San Fran shops... and the only thing it cares about is the restock time, % chance the item is there, and if it has the max amount of that item.

hmm, why did I think like that then?

I was only interested in certain items and bought all of them when I saw. probably rest of the stuff was already at the max amount so they didn't restock, but the items I bought was not in the stock so that may be why I always thought that they are restocking. practically nothing changes for me :) it's good that I learned this though. thank you

Hmm, interesting thoughts, everyone.

I had my NPCs using Pancors and so forth, but the morons insist on wasting ammo by bursting on everything, and I hate to do shopping, going from here to there just to get even 200 rounds of 12-gauge, etc., which the cretins will waste in about ten high-level encounters!

Another thing: are the Remnants of the Master's Army the rarest enemies in Fallout 2 or what?? Whereas Fire Geckos are all too common.
