yet another sound problem

When Playing FO1 (v1.1), all of my ending narrations were cut short. This includes the short ones whenever I died, as well as the ending slide show (at each new "slide" the narration would start, then cut out part way through). Reloading and replaying it would sometimes allow me to hear more of the narration (sometimes less), but I never made it all the way through without the sound cutting out. I tried various installation sizes... no difference.

This was the ONLY sound problem I experienced. Game sounds, music, and talking-head dialogs were all fine. Also, this is only happening on my new computer. I did not have this problem on my old, piece of garbage machine, though I never fully completed the game on it. The short death scenes played fine, though.

Now I'm playing FO2 (v1.02), and I'm seeing the same problem with the death scenes (I've not played all the way through yet). If I play all the way through this thing and get cheated out of my ending again, I will surely go on a murderous rampage.

I've got the same problem- FO1, the only end game narration that played was for the Brotherhood, nothing for the others or upon death. In FO2, death ones didnt play at all, and end sequence voices played a few moments of each before skipping. Largest install on both. And, like the previous poster, all other sounds work fine-talking heads, firing, the works.

Have you guys tried to upgrade your soundcard drivers ?

If not it could be a problem with the master.dat, try copying that file directly from the CDRom to the installation dir and try again..

Also check the config file to see what it says on the [sound] part of the fallout.cfg/fallout2.cfg.

Yep. I upgraded my sound drivers no more than a week ago, and just tried copying the master.dat from teh CD to the installation dir...no dice =P

As for the config file, what am I supposed to be looking for in the sound part to see if something is wrong?

I recognize some of these problems and I am pretty sure it isn't the game. Although you downloaded the newest drivers, it does not have to be that they are fixing these problems. They could be interferring with DirectSound or your card is just not that supportive for this kind of game engine. Hope you get this problem fixed, but I think only a next machine will allow you to hear the sfx out.

Well...Interplay's suggestions don't seem to be working either. I think you're right Dude...I guess it woudln't be so bad to slap together a machine with older parts and play it on that. Might help things like Crusader run, too. Welp, thanks for the help though.
