Regarding the Legion and Crippled Limbs

Ragemage

Wept for Zion
So I had a question about a current playthrough I'm doing. I'm playing as a pure Legion Scout. Born in the Legion, raised to be true to Caesar, etc. In order to set this up I gave myself a high agility, perception, and charisma at the cost of strength and endurance. I also gave myself small frame and fast shot considering most Legionaires use automatic guns and seem to just fire wildy, so I thought that'd fit.

Problem is though, since my endurance is so low and I have small frame, I find my limbs getting crippled pretty often. I can't keep going to profligate doctors to heal my crippled limbs, especially when I'm in the middle of nowhere. My issue is, are Doctor's Bags not allowed in the Legion? I know they don't use stimpaks or any sort of "modern medicine", preferring healing poultices and powders. I know the Legion invented Hydra and use it to heal crippled limbs, but hydra is so expensive to make (it requires nightstalker blood, and those guys are elusive) and it requires a high Survival, which I do not have. Plus Hydra is as addicting as it is rare, and not a lot of people sell it. Meanwhile in the quest Caesar's Favor, where he gives you goodies in exchange for loyalty, there's always Doctor's Bags in one of the chests.

TL;DR: Having a lot of problems with my pure Legion character breaking his limbs all the time, I need to know if the Legion allows the use of Doctor's Bags or if those are forbidden.

I would say that the Legion does not forbid Doctor's Bags. They give it as a reward in the supply boxes and we can even use one to aid with healing Caeser. I think the legion just mainly use Hydra because it can be produced in the wasteland, while Doctor's Bags are supposed to be few (also in my fannon doctor's bags contain mostly medical items like bandages, syringes, stethoscopes, maybe some alcohol, etc and not really chems).

I also made a pure Legion character, and doctor's bags are fine I think. They don't seem to hate it.

Playing a character that uses NO chems is surprisingly fun and challenging, especially with mods that makes combat a lot harder.

Yes, I'd agree. I've been running off only healing powders and food for healing. I would make weapon binding rituals but my legion scout mainly uses light automatic guns instead of machetes or power fists. Mainly because in my last run I played as a man who abhorred guns and was strictly unarmed the entire game. It was pretty damn fun chopping people in half with the Fist of the North Rawr but it made me want to use guns again after playing that run over 80 hours.

Cool. I'm doing the same, except really hard. Damage modifiers, this big survival overhaul and more. My skills already start real shitty. They're all under 20 AT THE BEGINNING. Hell yeah this is going to be tough!

You can craft a doctor's bag with: 1 forcep, 1 medical brace, 1 scalpel and, 1 medical tubing
No illicit chems or banned legion items, just base medical necessities, have fun walking around without broken legs and constant seizures.

Oh yeah, I forgot you can craft these. I really need to read up on crafting recipes in this game, there's so many!

Isn't there also a stronger healing powder that heal limbs? You could use that, I guess that for a full Legion character is good to have melee, explosives, survival, sneak and repairs high, so you can craft your shit and don't use too much old world technology. Mad Bomber is a very cool perk imo, and I like the playstile.

Usually set up some traps and lure the enemy, then finish them of with melee! That Knock-Knock axe is strong as fuck, also those cratable bombs and granades... I downloaded a mod that allows you to craft dynamite, explosives are my main thing now tbh

I consider the contents of the Dr. bag to be low tech, however, I feel it is important for all legion members to be easily dismembered. It wouldn't feel right killing them and dismembering them while they cry out "retribution" in vein. I mean, they are all filthy tribals anyway, and they work better as a soupy blood covering the ground than anything else.

Weapon binding ritual from HH is more suited to a Legion tribal. I don't know what the requirements are to craft it though.

Weapon Binding Ritual requirements, from the Fallout Wikia:
Materials:
healing powder (1)
knife (1)
leather belt (1)
wonderglue (1)

Requirements:
Campfire or electric hot plate
Melee Weapons: 25
Honest Hearts add-on
Produces:

Weapon binding ritual (1)

My friends (Chucksteel and Puppettron) made an awesome mod (well it is an addon for Chucksteel's mod TTWInteriors) it's called Mad Bomber Workshop which places a new workbench (the player has to first find a Suicide Bomber survival manual) just for explosives which allows to disassemble and craft many new explosives, it is a really awesome mod for those who love explosives.
The problem is that I think they never released it for just FNV, Chucksteel is one of the founders of the TTW team and Puppettron is part of the team too and so they focus more on modding for TTW than just FO3/FNV, but if anyone around here wants to take a look:

Also Chucksteel already released a Mad Bomber Workshop for Fallout 4, so if there is anyone around here who... play that game... and is interested here is the link:

Yay, explosives! Suicide bomber here I come!

(And I got a mod where you can't die... though you get unconscious and looted to shit. Means that dying is no longer just a reload.)

I'm pretty sure Doctor's Bags are allowed as I think you can get some from killing Legion Assassin parties if you're vilified with the Legion.

Also I think there's some medicine you can craft from campfires and workbenches that restore limbs if I'm not mistaken.

I've actually made a new NV character, a woman who is a descendent of The Vault Dweller, as in my own head canon, the Vault Dweller had two children, an unarmed woman and The Chosen One.
So it's fun. Kinda feels weird going from Fallout 4 to Fallout NV, but I like it. Hardcore mode actually gives me a challenge.

I think that the higher your explosive skills are, less damage you take from explosives. If I remember right, there is also a perk that reduces the damage you take from your own explosives, not really necessary imo as you just need to be careful when using them. A advice, never throw more then one explosive in VATS against fast melee enemies, they will rush your ass and the VATS will throw the dynamite at your feet! Also VATS has a serious problem when throwing explosives at opponents that are in a high, place like those guard towers in the NCRCF.

That perk that increases the explosion radius is great, that plus sneaking makes dynamite a exelent ambush weapon! I understand why the Powder Gang think its so cool to dynamite caravans lol

Only big problem is when you get ambushed, because you can`t place mines in a effetive way (that means not blowing yourself up), dynamite is risky against melee and if you go melee yourself, there is no way you will get out of it unhurt, but I like it this way, I think that firearms and energy weapons in general are very OP and take away too much of the challenge.

Fallout 4 has been peaking my hoarding habits, and going back to NV proper has been giving me the advantage of having so many items I can craft. I guess in retrospect it's a good idea I made my character with high Strength, and even then I'm still overencumbered most of the time

Highly doubtful. The doctor's bag seems to contain no chems of any kind, and I don't think medical alcohol is prohibited in the Legion. Besides, even the most loyal of Legionnaires are bound to be breaking their own laws out of necessity, because that's usually the norm for many empires throughout history.

Every time I see Duct Tape I get excited in NV, then realize it isn't as used as much in NV.

Also, OVERENCUMBERED MAN

For me, this really happens more time than it should. Then I continue to think about how in Fallout 4, unlike in New Vegas, attachments are literally glued onto the gun like some elementary art-school project.

Do stimpacks count as chems?

Okay, just to answer my own question, when I went into The Fort and the guy tells you to hand over all your chems, I couldn't pass the speech check and so he took all my stimpaks and my chems but he didn't take my Doctor's Bags. So yes, Doctor's Bags are a-ok with the Legion. They don't count as banned items.
