Is the T-60 really that bad?

Fallout Guy117

Feedback is Key.
While the T-60 is now by cannon by breaking the T-51 status as the pinnacle of pre-war power armor, is that really a big deal? Lores are changed all the time, and while Bethesda has changed a good chunk, I feel that they haven't broken it to an unorderlty state. Sure the T-51 is now basically second best in pre war armors, this does not overshadow its importance. Infant the T-60 feels lie something that never got the chance to shine. What are your thoughts?

That's actually one of the opportunities got wasted. T-60 basically looks like heavily modified T-45d, bethesda could always went with 'that's armor built by Brotherhood of Steel because after winning the war with the Enclave they got resources and technologies', but that requiers editing leveling items' lists so the player won't find BoS' Power Armor in pre-war containments like Court 35. Canon's changes needs to possess some sense. Naming T-60 pre-war doesn't have any, just 'we want, yo!'.
Again, if bethesda staff and especially writers were more communicable, most of misunderstandings could've at least damage controlled. Having Pete Hines' 'uninterested' ass instead of someone like Chris Avellone but on bethesda's side isn't something Fallout fans used to.

Owing your making excelent feedback, and I thank you. I especially like the idea of a heavily modified T-45, and agree with you on more open communications. Yet I am happy that at least Bethesda does keep an ear to sone basics, other companies just ignore there fans.

Appreciate it.
Bethesda a lot more secretive now, to be honest.
I was listeing to Matty's HAM radio podcast when he had Fo4's female voice actress Courtenay Taylor on as a guest. She said she was curious about the voiced protagonist debate after fan reception and speculation after E3. But this is the interesting bit she let slip, she said that she read it despite some corporate policy not to read anything Fallout related unless it's on the Bethesda Official Forum. She went on to say you're not supposed to, but the whole staff does it anyway.

Yep, pretty much popped in to say what you said. Saves me the work. Shame that this was considered too much work. Really, with so few variants of power armor available in the leveled lists even without the T-60, it wouldn't have been a huge loss. Frames are also rare enough in my experience that it's a joy to find them in the first place, no matter what armor pieces are attached.

To me the t-60 doesn't look more powerful than the t-51. The t-51 looks bigger and more armored than the t-60. When I wear the t-51 I feel like a tank, when I wear the t-60 I feel like Iron Man in underwear.

Exactly my words.
Also, I think they just wanted "their own" style of power armor to be the best PA commonly available so they can justify putting it on the cover again.

My sentiments exactly. The T-60 could have been dubbed as post-War Power Armor like Enclave Power Armour instead of what we got in FO4 (which was that T-60 was some new unheard of type of power armour that was somehow superior to T-51b and yet, was only mass produced in Boston for some reason).

They even could have justified why the design resembled T-45d; the Eastern BoS reversed engineered tech from Enclave Power Armour and built new advanced suits based on the T-45d designs that aforesaid BoS was more used to.

P.S: Still salty that T-51b was supplanted as the pinnacle of pre-War Power Armour by such an uninspired armour like T-60. At least the design of T-51 made sense as how it was the pinnacle of power armour tech at the time, T-60 seemed like a downgrade from T-51b to me.

Yeah, it's just odd that the supposedly superior T-60 looks more like the T-45 instead of the T-51 it was supposed to follow up on.
One step forward, two steps back? That and the loading screen showing the T-51 claiming it to be the actual pinnacle of pre-war power armor makes me think that they actually planned the T-60 to be a (BoS) development of the T-45, but then decided otherwise so they could cram it into the pre-war sequence (which was heavily featured prior release).

It's still kinda shitty, after all T-60 didn't save patrols in post-war commonwealth.

And what's the thing between bethesda and pre-war america?

If you think about it Beth hasn't gotten power armor right once yet in anyway. 4's come closest, but that core drain is stupid fast.

No, they didn't. How do you put a person in Advanced Power Armor? X-01 is a merely a cosplay made out of common components sitting on ordinary (APPARENTLY, ACCORDING TO BETHESDA :???:) frame, original APA should be smaller. There's no opening valve behind APA too.

Well what about the T-45, it fit into the lore nicely. As well as the MK-II advanced power armor.

Although I wish the Hellfire armor was avalible. That was a pretty cool alternative look.

I found this cool video that actually does explain the power cores and it is surprisingly accurate.

It takes all the games and calculates the time, and condition that the cores were in during each game. Apparently 68 days after you get out of Vault 111, most, if not all fusion cores will be dead. This is also confirmed in Fallout 1, so that's a good little, but impressive accurate point in the lore. That could have been a pretty cool quest or plot point, yet it sadly wasn't. Yet it is amazing at the math that was put in the video, I'd give it a watch.

They could have explained the sudden usage of fusion cores by saying that the original pre-war armors were running out of fuel, so they were modified to use these fusion cores, which would drain a lot faster. That way they could have a lot of armor frames to loot out there yet still restrict their use by forcing the player to modify the frame to utilise fusion cores first.
Generally the whole power armor thing could have been done a lot better. Proctor Ingram uses it as a prothetic, others could use it as a contruction tool/powerlifter.
Also, have the main factions discover a stash of pre-war armors or armor frames somewhere (a hidden National Guard storage or something) with lots of frames in reasonable condition waiting to be found and refurbished. Would fit nicely into the whole "who controls the Commonwealth war" theme.

Just to clarify, Advanced Power Armor Mk II was already in Fallout 2 as the most powerful power armor you could get there.

If Bethesda wanted to use fusion cores, I understand why from a game design perspective (to balance out the new features of Power Armor) but they should have tried harder explaining all that in game or giving some in-universe justification like what @Hassknecht said about power armor used in the game are modified to rely on new power sources since older sources were running dry. More work and writing could have gone into this but it's mostly handwaved aside which makes Bethesda seem lazy like that.

The T51b says it houses a power source that can last 100 years. I assume it's not draining power when not in use, you know cause all it really needs to do is power the hydraulic assists. The core drain in Fallout 4 is dumb. So I wouldn't of bought a "running out of fuel" narrative anyway.

I've always wondered about other uses for power armor in the fallout universe, there is a mod that I downloaded for a construction power armor and it was done incredibly well.

There's also a submersible model, but there is a lack of more civilian use. Although it could also be theorized that the government just wanted to keep it in military control.

Pre-war it wouldn't really make sense to have civilian power armor (especially since they were relatively new technology), but post war? Definitely useful. But the only glimpses we get are Proctor Ingram and the Atom Cats (who definitely should have been expanded upon. More power armor gangs, more really tricked out armors. Would have fitted into the whole "power armors are in common non-combat use throughout the Commonwealth", too).
