Water Chip? Been There, Done That
I recently and came across a show on Netflix called Barbarians about the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest where the Roman expansion into Germania was brutally halted by Germanic tribes. One thing I quite liked about the show was that they actually went the extra mile to make the Roman actors speak Latin, and surprisingly accurate to the era although with some missteps here. Anyway I recommend if you haven't heard of it or haven't checked it out.

Rescue Me is an amazing show about fire fighters fighting fires and dealing with other things.
It's a drama/comedy show.

Also I think the show stays good throughout the series. It changes over time of course but the quality doesn't dip.
 
If you have not watched The Shield then you should.
Rome as well.
 
Revolution was a great show. Even though the protagonist, came off as a slightly autistic female Gary Cooper.

Chucky was pretty decent as a huge fan of the series.
Dexter is great up until Season Six or so then it dives in quality.
 
Yeah I'd advice to dip out of Dexter after season 4.
If you absolutely HAVE to watch what happens next then stop after season 5.
Cause the only seasons that have any kind of "proper" ending that feels like "that story is over now, it concluded itself nicely" is season 1, 4, 5 and 8. And I don't see why you'd need to stop at Season 1 so 4 or 5 are the only proper ways to end the series. Season 6 feels like 3 did, a fodder season in a way. Not the most important to the story so it goes out with a whimper and if you start season 7 or 8 you're just gonna ruin the rest of the series.

So stop at 4 or 5.

But yeah, Dexter is amazing.
 
Agreed all around. The reason the series feels like this is they started it when only one book was written so they made it mostly up as they went along. You can kinda tell with Skinner and Miguel early on but jesus the bible nuts late game are the worst.
 
Yeah I read the books. They're completely different from the tv-show.
I would suggest reading the books too but the characters are very different.
So expect something very different.
 
I'm halfway through the first one now. It's not bad. He really doesn't give a shit about Rita a little more so which is nice.
 
Yeah I think they wanted the show to make him more sympathetic for a mainstream audience.
The books version is very out of touch with being "human" and has to fake a lot of it and since it is from his perspective it really shows.
 
Because it was entertaining? It didn't butt fuck the source material? It had good actors? Only 8 episode with no filler? Something like that.

So if you don't like the genre just don't watch it I guess.
 
Reacher was pretty good, yeah.
Agreed on Rome being good, didn't watch Barbarians for more than a few episodes, but it was decent. Really nice that the Romans speak actual Latin. It's not perfect and Latin linguists can nitpick at it, but they really put in some effort to train the actors to speak it well.
Right, lemme recommend some older shows:
Space: Above and Beyond is the best military SciFi series ever and was 20 years ahead of its time, hence Fox cancelling it after one season. If you like Stargate or the new Battlestar Galactica, watch Space: Above and Beyond and see where it all came from. The CGI and effects didn't even age that horribly, at least compared to Babylon 5 from the same era.
A rather unknown series: Total Recall 2070. Very loosely based on Philip K. Dick's work, kind of a mixture of Total Recall (duh) and Blade Runner. Visually it's really going for the Blade Runner vibe, so if you crave that, give it a shot. Late 90s canadian/german co-production, which, as we know from Lexx: The Dark Zone, is the best combo. Also cancelled after one season because we can't have nice things ever.
 
I liked Space: Above and Beyond when it came out. I also liked White Dwarf... but it didn't get past the pilot. :(

 
Dark Shadows is good. This episode is informing me all about brakes on a car.
