James truly is the lead role in the game, not the player character. The entire main quest revolves around him and his work and legacy. You’re just chasing him until you graduate to errand boy doing all the hard work for him so the true main character can complete his goal and save the wasteland—not you. When the Enclave come down and trap James in the room, you’re not the one who faces off with the game’s main enemy force, you’re simply forced watch James and his noble sacrifice. Even when he's dead and gone, you’re not the lead character. Just the errand boy for the BOS Power Ranger chapter. When Liberty Prime is deployed and the final mission is about to start you’re not even part of the speech Sarah Lyons makes, if I remember correctly she’s not even facing you. You’re forced to sit there and just watch as she makes this grand speech to her squad, on the sidelines like the water boy before the Super Bowl.

Yeah I totally agree. Even the newer ' Fallouts' as in conversions can make this basic error. You are sent from a vault wearing basic gear when the vault's patrols wear combat armour !
